I posted below (under "Everything Errors") about getting many errors (transmission, suspension, HDC, etcetera).

The usual cause is a poor battery, a poor alternator, or both, or the connections between them. I had both changed less than a month ago.

So, into the mechanic AGAIN. Both were checked and working well. An error code lead them to the motor that activates the rear locking differential. It's not part of the differential itself, it just puts the diff lock on and off. It seems this is a known problem and can frequently affect FFRRs, SSRRs, and D3/4s with the rear locking diff causing the above symptoms.

Book time isn't bad, at 0.8 hours, but the repair kit (only available from JLR ) and is a rather pricey $650 ($1=£0.55, it's too late to do the math).

So, if you're getting the error and have already checked the usual suspects, here's another one to try.

Can I ask which spec, model and year this is please? I'm guessing from your name it's a 2008?

Just a guess, but 2008 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Java Black. That's the NA Jag petrol engine with the 6sp zf box.

Thanks Contraband I didn't know that. However on mine it shows only my current TDV8 and not my 4.2 S/C. Can you have more than one? Nothing shows under yours??? Rehab is for quitters!!!

Yes, the guesses are right. I have a USA spec 2008 FFRR. The exact spec is an HSE LUX. It has the 4.4 nonSC Jaguar V8 and 6 speed transmission. The model specs are different over here, so I don't know the exact UK spec equivalent. AKAIK the car has absolutely everything a Supercharged would have (locking diff, cooled seats, leather, GPS, very nice audio) but no rear seat entertainment system.

My mechanic, who knows his stuff, mentioned the same part is used on other Land Rovers, so it makes sense that it could be on a diesel. However, we don't get diesels here, so he wouldn't have seen them. The only time diesels show up is after our 15 year import rule. That means a bit of a time warp. A proud owner recently showed off his Defender with the NEW TD5 ENGINE. I also recently saw a "new" diesel Range Rover (P38 2.5 DSE ex Germany with a MANUAL transmission).

Ok mine appears to have the diff lock. Any suggestions how to test this other than replace it?
It doesn't seem to show up as a fault on the iid.

In case you are researching the matter, the rear diff lock is called the Electronic Torque Managed (ETM) Locking Differential.

I had a replacement motor fitted on my 2008MY TDV8 about 2 years ago as the motor had a fault.

If you look on your 4x4 info screen whilst turning your terrain response knob, you will see the icon over the rear diff change from a closed green padlock to an open one... That way you will know if your FF came with an EMT

Cam-Tech-Craig there are two open padlocks on the 4X4 screen, one on the rear diff and the other on the transfer box. I thought they only locked automatically when required. Am I wrong?
