2005 Range Rover Autobiography Td6 Zambezi Silver

Well after a 13 hour round trip and nearly £200 spent on train fairs yesterday both cars were absolute crap.
What is it with car dealers and the need to lie. Grey one was described as in excellent condition and a cherished example. After 30 seconds of walking around it I had seen enough, front end blasted with stone chips, scratches and large marks on every panel and laquer peel on the bumpers etc. seats inside were worn to hell and the bolsters starting to collapse, mats hadn't been used in the car for years so the carpets were worn and filthy, after saying to the dealer "you told me it was excellent condition" his response was " well it's an 8 year old car what do you expect" Told the dealer thanks for wasting my time and a 4 hour journey and set off to see the black one which was another 3 hours away.

Was confident with this one and pretty certain I would be coming home with it after how the dealer described it as having 'mint black paintwork' 'unmarked alloys' and 'an interior as good as a 10k Mile car' got off the train and upon walking upto the car I thought this can't be the same car surly.. Front end needed repainting due to heavy stone chips, marks on all the panels again, badly chipped door edges and 3 out of the 4 'unmarked'wheels were all kerbed. Opened the passenger door, drivers seat all worn, rear seats had been damaged by a dogs claws and also both rear door cards the same and ripped. Boot area was a mess also. Dealers response was "well you won't find a better one" and stated that his valeter could paint the wheels and paint the leather to as good as new ! At this point I'd had enough and told him I wouldn't touch his crap with a barge pole. So all in all has put me off traveling for cars anymore especially from car dealers who seem to feel the need for lying through there teeth over every question you ask them.

Is amazing how great things can look in a picture and had studied both cars photos closely. When seeing them in the flesh they were very poor indeed. I didn't even hang around to start looking at the mechanical/service side of things but no doubt there were many problems with both of these cars which looked like they have had a hard life.

Really good examples are very hard to find which is the main reason my stock levels are low - I do not entertain crap. Thumbs Up

Thanks buddy Thumbs Up It needs to be a diesel this time around. I had a totally immaculate supercharged in buck blue a couple of years back and loved the car so much just couldnt live with the fuel bill im afraid personally. Looking back now i was very very lucky to get that one as was the first one i had set eyes on and the dealer delivered it to me before id even seen it in the flesh Shocked and it was perfect. So when these dealers say 'you wont find an 06 or 07 plate car in that condition' its a load of rubbish because they are out there but you dont really know until you have been to see them

I can certainly vouch for Gary - I bought an immaculate SE from him a couple of weeks ago - it was as described and every bit as good as the photographs Thumbs Up

I came out of an Audi A6 2 years newer than the RR, with less than half the number of miles on it, so I was expecting it to feel a bit "tired" by comparison, but that just wasn't the case at all - I absolutely love it Very Happy

Frustrating waste of time.

I'm sure you did similar but if ever I've got to travel a couple of hours or more to see a car, I ask the seller detailed questions such as has it been smoked in, has it had any animals in the boot or inside the car, are there any marks on any of the alloys, can they email me pictures of the boots space, under the bonnet, all alloys, carpets and can they highlight any areas of damage or deterioration to the bodywork/ interior including headlining etc.

Had sellers decline these requests or who have still over egged the pudding but if they do either, there ends my interest. If they're genuine and more importantly, confident in the car, my experience has been they've wanted to show off everything if it's genuinely immaculate. Not 100% foolproof but a good indication if it's worth your while making a trip.

If you see any further cars, I'm sure forum members in a given area would be happy to give a car at least a visual once over for you to try and get you an honest appraisal of its condition if it's far far away from you Thumbs Up

To be honest I have bought privately ( Gary counts too as he is a known quantity) mainly because if you speak to the owner you get a feel for whether he has looked after it or not. When I bought this one I had a good few chats with the bloke selling and he sent over invoices for servicing and also detailing and when I pitched up it was immaculate and had Landrover warranty which I extended for another year and a tracker all little things that showed he cared.
Do wish you luck and don't just buy in a rush Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear of the wasted trip.

I don't understand why people do that. If it's not what the buyer expects and wants, he won't buy it.

I looked once at a P38 before getting my L322. It was described as "mint." My first thought was, "Well maybe they didn't wash it." I looked in the back, lifted the spare tyre cover and found a floating spare tyre covered in mold! Shocked Salesman seemed surprised that I didn't even want a test drive. Censored
