whining noise at <5 low speed

Hi Chaps,
Just noticed that if I started the car(4.4 TDV8) and drive at very low speed about less than 5mph, I can hear very low whining noise at certain low speed point, pass that point, you can not hear the whining thing at all - the noise is hardly noticeable, normally people wont notice that at all, only im very sensitive to noise.

took the car to dealer and they phoned me back say its the Catalytic Converter broken some pieces inside and so they ordered a new one to fix tomorrow.

just curious really, how easy the Catalytic Converter will got problem? and in general use, how can try to prolong the life of cat converter?

Regards
Henry.

Nothing you can do apart from don't make short trips but that's not really practical... some say cheap supermarket petrol can harm them but I can't see it myself.... Pete

Is it a whining or whirring sound ? only ask as when the gas gets low in the AC you can hear the compressor at idle and very low speed and it is a whirring sound . 2008 MY Supercharged

I too have a whining noise in my 2004 vogue, normally coming from the passenger seat Laughing "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

It is a whining sound, before I demo the problem to the technician, he say could be compressor noise, after the demo, he went out the car check the exhaust, but could not really hear that whining noise from outside the car, its more obvious from inside.

Next time you hear the noise just turn the AC off , if the noise doesn't go away I'm wrong and move on to the next idea . These worrying little sounds can really get to you Evil or Very Mad 2008 MY Supercharged
