Check coolant warning query

Hi guys the check coolant warning came on in my car on saturday, it took approx 1 litre of distilled water to get it back to a normal level. I left the car for 24 hours and rechecked and the level was the same as when I topped up and there was no sign of a leak.

I wanted to ask if the 4.4 petrol engine is known to lose coolant over time or do you think I have a leak somewhere, I last topped up about 6 months/4000 miles ago.

Also the coolant is red/pink, to keep the right concentration of antifreeze can I use any red coolant say from halfords?

Thanks in advance for any advice. 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast

yours is 10 years old so there might be a possible leak somewhere or the coolant cap might be of the wrong pressure rating [search the forum for that info] ... - .- -.

Thanks for the advice, I will monitor the coolant level over the next few weeks - hopefully it's just normal incontinence for the old girl as she is getting on a bit! 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast

Mine looses a little coolant. I don't know where, as the system has been tested.

Check the forum for details. Possible solutions include: new coolant, new coolant sensor (v cheap), new coolant expansion tank (not cheap, around £100).
