Ah. Good.

Trouble is, he's just raping the internet daily of other people's shots, adding his 'signature', and re-posting it as his own. But I know there's lots of my own work on there, and four or five of my colleague's and friend's snaps on there, all of which, as I, do it for a living.

Does this chap steal petrol from the petrol station, or food from the supermarket, just to 'look cool' on social media?

I had someone use my shots recently without agreement; on Billboards around Canary Wharf. Fortunately, the judge in the UK Patents and Copyright court saw the facts and gave the right judgement, awarding a five figure costs and damages settlement figure in my favour. I've just emailed Mr Look Cool on Instagram to remind him of this.

So yes, it is 'just pics, what's the harm'; only it isn't, is it - he's just a thief.

That's what Instagram & Facebook etc are full of everyday. While undoubtedly annoying for the creator, it's quite different to someone selling your work commercially and virtually impossible to stop I'd imagine Sad

Erm, not quite. He hasn't stolen anything, he's infringed copyright. There's a world of difference between the two.

Technically, you are correct - but the commonality is the act of taking it is illegal, as to taking something that isn't yours to take, and pass around the world, as your own - which then ends up God-Knows-Where. "S'the Digital age, innit?, what's the harm"

Site collator emailed back; UAE based, and very apologetic. Instagram also followed the take down report, as do Pinterest happily.

FWIW, I think there's a place for a regular blog of -original- owners stuff from around the world. Wouldn't it be a great resource, to read about cars we love in use/lifes in all manner of countries, conditions and cultures. Say, 500 words max, and up to ten pics on a post. There's a few in a similar theme for Porsches that have been going years.

I know I'd enjoy that for our beloved RRs, in all model forms. Could be great for everyone.

Not everyone has the money to own all the photographs so there's definitely a place for what he did. It's of interest to me as a LR enthusiast regardless of who takes the pictures, and yes, I used to be a tog as well, Sadly there just isn't enough money in endless weddings and I much prefer wildlife to people anyway. Yes my images get used without permission sometimes but meh, life's too short.

But there's no "Technically" about it. Theft is a criminal offence whereas copyright infringement is a civil matter. Like I said, a world of difference.

A little hostile my friend, not sure why. As I say, "its the internet, mate, innit"

I agree about one thing - life's too short to used to have to shoot endless weddings as a weekend warrior. Wrong end of the market for financial success. Never done that myself but do know 'the chap' everyone is copying for the last 15 years.

Point remains, none of that is that chaps to take, and put his own watermark on. If you wan to see it, a google, Flikr search or twitter scan will find the originals, and more besides.

Happy RR-ing

Nothing hostile at all, Just stating the facts that your allegation of theft was melodramatic and inaccurate.
