Can I just use the towing eyes on the FF?

Last time I towed someone out of a ditch we used a knotted nylon blue rope, a VW Passat and a replica Gibson Les Paul jammed under the spinning front wheel. But we were young and stupid and I don't want to have to keep a guitar in the boot.

The patience of a saint - as most people don't have a clue how to help themselves.

Ditch of any size - forget it and leave it to the pro's

Be prepared to educate them that their car likely has a screw in towing eye somewhere - then help them search for it - then, if you actually find it, screw it in for them as they cannot fathom a left handed thread.

The strap you've found is fine, but you'll also need a couple of shackles.

Before trying any recovery - ask them if they are absolutely sure & that you're not liable for anything.

Then when you try to recover them - explain that they should try to drive out at the same time, so that you are applying less effort, but expect them not to & you have to pull a dead weight. If you're lucky they will have the presence of mind to apply the brakes before hitting your car.

If their in a ditch best leave them there they will only blame you for any damage once you get them out

You do need to be very careful.

I've towed people from beach car parks where they were just spinning their wheels. Similarly up the end part of a snow slope where they couldn't quite grip - no problem at all.

Another time I came across a lad who'd spun out on a roundabout - made a mess of his car having hit a bollard & kerb & was sideways across the carriageway unable to move.

I somewhat reluctantly towed him up onto a grass verge - and seemed to make even more of a mess of his front suspension as we mounted the kerb, but the bulk of the damage was already done, he thanked me profusely & I never heard a thing afterwards, but I was a little worried......

Thanks for the thoughts, will get that strap and a couple of shackles and pick my victim carefully

And remember that eye at the rear is a tie down eye not a towing eye so unless you have a tow bar you can’t tow anything from the rear.

Thanks for that, it has the standard removable Westaflia towbar so should be OK. Didn't know that though - so the front one is OK but not the rear. Hmm.

I remember a Clarkson L322 review and he was saying the rear towing eye was rated to X tonnes.
