Any informed.suggestions will be welcomed.I've been offered a 2010 3.6 TD for £30k with 56k miles and a 2012 4.4 TD COR £34k with 70k miles. Both main dealer. with 2 years Approved warranty.Nothing to choose between the cars in spec,or quality. Which would you go for? The higher mileage,slightly more expensive later 4.4 or the cheaper 3.6

For me it would depend on how many miles per year you will be doing. If you're doing low mileage then in a few years the 4.4 will come back in line. I think the difference between the two is noticeable. Regards

I went for the 3.6 2010 but that was down to availability rather than choice (I rushed a bit)

From what I hear the 4.4 is a much nicer engine, more refined, quieter and bittern fuel. From your thread, It's also 2 years newer.!

Would you lose the extra 4K in the next 2 years - (I suggest quite a lot more) so I'd be looking at the 2012 4.4 to be honest. Ash

The 4.4 all day long, I wouldn't pay top money for a RR without it

I have a 3.6 and its a great engine, no question, however the 4.4 has the 8 speed box which I have driven, and believe me - that's a big difference and you can see where that extra money goes.

I have a 4.4 so let's assume I am biased!

The 4.4 will have the better brakes, better engine and better gearbox.
Over time the mileage difference will be less relevant but the advantages of the later car will remain.

I had almost exactly your choice, I chose the 4.4 and I am delighted with it every day.

I can genuinely see 35mpg on any reasonable run with the 4.4 which probably doesn't justify the difference but amazes and delights me with a 2.4 tonne brick every time it comes up on the dashboard display (ok ok I know that it's too optimistic but it still makes me feel good)

Final point. My 4.4 was the exact (Black/Ivory and VSE) spec I would have ordered brand new if I could have afforded it, and that was worth more than the extra 20/- miles and £1,500 I paid for over the Vogue I nearly bought.

^^^+1, I had 3 3.6L TDV8s before going for the 4.4L and, ho man, this is a great machine! however, bear in mind the 3.6L is already a fantastic engine.

4.4 any day. the 8 speed is so smooth and shows me 1300 revs at 70mph - need i say more? Actually yes I do - I believe the 4.4 not only to be smoother but quieter and generally more refined.

I have owned both and I agree the 3.6 is a stunning engine but the 4.4 remapped is absolutely out of this world, I always do 90 MPH on the motorway (the private ones ) and the 3.6 did about 24-26 MPG after being remapped (done at 1000 miles so can't comment on standard really) but the 4.4 does 31 MPG (again always been remapped from a few hundred miles) and if you put your foot down at any speed the 4.4 just leaps forward like it's a sports car and is so refined with the 8 speed box, mine has 75,000 miles on it now and feels like new, I have no wear on any seats, steering wheel.
I am in the middle of ordering a new FFRR but this one will be staying too as I do prefer the looks of the L322 to the L405, hope the L405 grows on me over the next year or so

Who mapped your 4.4?

I have only ever used DMS, had my 535D, X5 3.0D, 997 Turbo and M5 done with them and always had great results so I took the FFRR to them and again great service with really good results.
