My SC has always run straight as a die on all roads, you can let go of the steering wheel and it just sits straight.

However, in the last week or two, it's started to drift left, probably after banging into a few winter potholes. So I checked all the tyre pressures, easily done apart from which pressure gauge to trust, the one with my air compressor reads 10psi less than my little digital tester. Tyres are bang on 33psi front and 36 psi rear.

I took it for a tracking check at my local garage, they said it was fine but maybe I should look into a 4 wheel alignment, so I managed to get this done at another trusted local garage. I didn't mention it was drifting to the left and the report came back that it was pointing to the right!

How is it possible that I can experience the car drifting to the left, the laser alignment says it was pulling to the right?

They centred it all but I've not yet done any miles in it to check .

It should naturally drift left due to the camber on most roads, but agree with you it is odd that the garage had it figured as drifting right - this might have been why it was going dead straight - could have been even more right b efore you hit the potholes etc?

FWIW after my 4 wheel alignment on a flat road will go straight but on most roads will pull left due to camber. If I switch lanes (e.g. drive on wrong side of road), it drifts right - getting more difficult to test these days  .

It could be down to uneven wear on the tyres, I had a 4wheel tracking done a few weeks ago and had the steering wheel centered. Then I had a new cv boot fitted and they changed over one of the wheels and the tyre at the same time (the wheel wasn't sitting central on the hub and was causing some vibration). Now the steering wheel is slightly off centre, but still tracks true and straight!

What about swapping front wheels around. I'm thinking it could be a softer tyre wall? Previously..

Tyres are all same age, mileage and wearing evenly. Not been rotated. Discovery 4 HSE

An Update:

Took my car to be aligned again today as it is still creeping left.

Once again they said that once on the machines, the front wheels were pointing right i.e they said my car would have been drifting right - which it wasn't.

So, they adjusted it and now it is still drifting left AND the steering wheel isn't centred when driving in a straight line, a massive pet hate of mine. How F***** hard can this be to line things up?

Garage has it wrong if steering wheel is not straight ahead ( I guess they were aiming to please)

Maybe, you have a worn steering joint. Maybe a track rod end? Instead of concentrating on the alignment, perhaps have a check of the front suspension joints. If you jack car on one side an inch above the ground, then force in a crowbar end and get someone to rattle it up down hard, you might see some clunking - and you can side to side clunk the wheels a bit to check against the top to bottom play etc....
We also have merc, and just found that the wandering steering (after a four wheel align) on that is due to the wheel bearings have excess play, I'm changing them, as tightening then, has made it better, but new ones will be better still. This is at 60k so not so high as expected.

I would suggest going away from a "specialist" and instead hunt out a good old fashioned garage with Mechanics instead of Technicians!! My local guys aren't specialist in LR but they get a full range from old Corsas right up to LR products still under warranty. As a result they don't just go by the "computer says" route - they engineer a solution.

Your FF could have something daft like a damaged bush / wheel etc which the alignment tools can't interpret.

It's a slippery slope I never managed to get mine straight a major hate of mine too. I found myself looking at other cars as I passed to see what position their steering wheel was in relation to mine . Hope you get it sorted Adam for sanity sake  Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Adam. Are you putting it in tight tolerance mode when it's being aligned? Makes a massive difference.

Google for your nearest place with a Hunter laser machine. It's the only accurate one I've ever come across.

Adam, that wheel is not right at all, much further out and the steering angle sensor might throw an error or two.

I would get it done at a local f1 or quickies on a hawkeye, and put it in tight tolerance if you can. Make sure the wheel is pointing ahead when they put the brace on. The one to look out for on the printout is the steer ahead value. Should be bang on, or it will drift. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
