Hi All,

As some of you know I've just aquired a new (ish) TDV8. Lovely car but it has a kind of whine/drone - constant - related to the the engine speed/acceleration (i.e. it gets higher pitched as you accelorate and drops and starts to rise again with gear changes)

Is that normal for the TDV8 or the start of something horrible...?

it kinda sounds like the interference/feedback you used to get with stereos that needed the inline filter thingy adding (but is not related to the stereo in this case)

No - Defo a whine noise. Sounds a bit "electronic" but it's not I don't think. It changes based on acceleration/speed but noticeably drops down in tone and starts to rise again when the car changes into the next gear. Ash

Induction pipework?

Rear Diff (usually start to sound like an old 70's school bus)

Alternator bearings?

Fan belts?

hmm - thx guys - Think I will run it up to my indy for a check... Don't like it whenpeople start talking about Torque Converters...!!!!

definitely mechanical and not electrical interference of some sort?

I had a similar issue on a TD6 and it was coming through the speakers.

Cleared after a couple of days.

Never found out what is was. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Defoe mechanical - Stopped by my local indy and he had a look and listen.

Without a proper inspection (which would have involved taking half the front of the car off) he thinks it's the power steering pump as it increases with revs.

He doesn't believe it would cause more damage to drive for a few days and the seller is going to look at it for me. Ash

In that case, get him to check the alternator bearings first... Well known issue...

Wow - someone moving from a TD6 to a TDV8 complaining of noise!

I was expecting to hear the burble of the V8 though not an angry bee..! Ash
