2002 L322 , Child Seat in the front passenger seat.

I need to be able to mount a child seat in the front passenger seat, my 2002 doesnŽt seem to have a key off function for the airbag, what options do I have ? Can it be disabled by IIDtool ? Should I remove it completely or just disconnect the plug ?

I know that child seats are supposed to be be in the back, but when my GF is riding in the car alone with our daughter she just screams her lungs out unless she can see her, no a safe option either.

It should do.

Open the front passenger door and look on the side of the dash. There should be a keyhole to disable it there.

You only need to disable things for a rearward-facing child seat. Si. <This is my name.

I studied it a while ago and the safe age for kids to be in the front (based on statistics and child physical development) seems to be 12 years. Below that age even a front facing kid can sustain damage from the airbag.

Furthermore the safest position for a car seat is in the middle of the rear seat (again based on statistics).

My suggestion is to try that, have your daughter sit in the middle, that way she can see your lady a bit better hopefully.

We use Kiddy-Pro seats (we have two) and as they can be used with the seat belts. Very safe and comfy for the kids. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Yea.. seems like the only solution is to remove the whole SRS Airbag from the passenger seat, or atleast disconnect it.

To be honest, I would put earplugs in, headphones on until she learns that crying is not helping. It seems a bit harsh but I believe it is the only way not to end up with an insufferable brat. We have two girls (4 and 12) and they know that crying and performing is not working so they are getting better and better at negotiating (very useful in real life).

Safety is a hell of a lot more important than that hour or so that she needs to learn that she can't always get her way Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

ebajema: You do have a point, but most cars do have key-disable on the passenger SRS airbag nowadays. And some studies show that just by being in a L322 you are 20-30% safer than in any regular car no matter what seat you are in, as presented by Crashing institute in Swizerland. j/k...

WeŽll see how it turns out.. need to have the gearbox issues resolved first !

I know, most modern cars have front passenger seat disable buttons/switches. I still wouldn't put my daughters in the front until they are 12 (the oldest just turned 12 in December) as the statistics show that the airbag can still do damage (unless you switch it off of course and my 2010 should have that capability).

The 4 year old is all too happy in her car seat sitting behind me by the sounds of things, she loves going for drives Smile.

I hope that you sort out the gearbox soon as well, I hate it when they do that Sad MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
