Not A Great Start

After just 3 weeks of my first fullfat...she's on the back of a yellow taxi Big Cry

A belt has shredded and I lost power steering and had Christmas tree lights etc Whistle

It's currently being repaired under warranty, but it turns out that this has happened before..back in April 2014 when she had done 25k & had new tensioners and pulleys fitted Banging Head Banging Head ,I bought the ff with 30k on the clock,so she's only done 6k and it's happened again !!
Is this a known fault with them ?

Thanks

If you bought it from a dealer I would be rejecting it under the Sale of Goods Act.

You don't need that sort of aggravation so soon after buying the car.

IMHO doubt that you'll be able to reject it for such a problem as the word "Reasonable" comes into play...

You could however try for a written extended warranty (comprehensive or just to extend cover for that issue and any consequential damages related to that issue) and i'd expect a good dealer to consider that a reasonable request to satisfy your anxieties regarding that problem going forward. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Thats quite a big job replacing that little lot too!

Dealers are doing it a lot due to customers complaining about noisy squeaky belts on the 4.4...

Was only discussing the (lack of) a JLR solution with a service manager last week Rolling Eyes

Just another observation. The dealer (aka the contractor) does have a duty to carry out a "lasting repair" in a "workman like manner".

The definition of "lasting repair" is elastic, but it is what a reasonable person with an average knowledge on the subject, would define as a reasonable time to expect a certain repair to last.

The term "reasonable" is of course also very elastic and depends on the item, its usage and cost.

Some items / repairs are expected to last a long time but may fail with excess use. Other things that are not expected to last will go on forever because they're hardly used, but generally the law does offer you some protection.

If you believe that something has failed earlier that would have been reasonably expected, or if the latent defect (the original cause) has not been properly rectified in the first place you can complain.

After 6 months, you would have to prove that they didn't do a workmanlike repair, whereas under 6 months, the contractor has to prove that they did repair the latent defect and the problem you then have is unrelated and completely new, justifying charging you to do the repair.

Disclaimer..I am not a lawyer..and some or all of the above may be complete b Censored ks Thumbs Up GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus
