Anybody able to tell if these are tow bar gubbins

Is anybody able to tell if these are anything to do with a tow bar that may have been fitted once ?

If they are it would be nice to be able to just buy the missing bit and get it sorted so I could get a bike rack mount sorted for the summer

I would say yes they are the remains of a tow bar. Definitely not the original bits which go there. Not a genuine LR bar though so identifying it may be a bit tricky. I would start with a browse of PF jones site and see if any of the brink or witter bars look similar. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Recon they are the left over from a Witter tow bar that was removed in a hurry Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Best to remove it all then and start from afresh instead of trying to play pin the tail on the donkey.

I would prefer a removable unit anyway

I'd agree with that. The cost will be little different. What happened to the wiring? Has it been hacked off, or removed properly and did they replace the rubber bung where the wiring went through?

Not sure, theres no mess hanging around the area (in or out) so will have to look a bit deeper for the answer to that question.

In the early days of ownership making sure the boot area was water tight was a priority so all holes are bunged properly etc and dont remember seeing any suspicious wiring looms, holes or anything out of the ordinary.

Probably left these bits on to save removing the bumper, and just unbolted all the easy bits.

As said I would start afresh with a westfalia subframe and either a farmers hitch or removeable bar. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine has the same brackets but the electrics for a tow bar are cable tied up inside the rear bumper , what bothers me more is not having a proper rear tow eye to fit my rigid tow bar on if I need to tow someone , can you buy the original bracket with the eye on ?

I would just buy a shackle that will fit through one of those bolt holes - should be plenty strong enough to tow someone with a rope/strap

You can, they're available from Land Rover dealers. if you're planning on fitting a tow bar though, the Westfalia one has the tow eye as part of it.

You'll have to remove the bumper to fit the standard bracket with a tow eye anyway, so you may as well get the tow armature for it.

i have a rigid towing bar for towing and the end won't fit through the holes , I don't like towing with a rope as its abut to easy for the person being towed to go into the back of you .
I'll look into buying the original tow eye and bracket or I might just make one to bolt onto the bracket that's on the car now
