The second failure was a month out of warranty so cost me, this one is well within warranty, £3.5K in repairs to the gearbox in my ownership, getting silly now...

More transmission problems...

The transmission output shaft splines have worn resulting in total loss of drive.
This shaft transmits the drive from the main gearbox to the transfer box.

I've just had a call from my garage to say the splines were not lubricated and was assembled dry, this can only be from the last time I had the gearbox repaired. So not happy with the "specialist" who last repaired my transmission.

Anyway, although the shaft is not available new through Land Rover, it is available remanufactured from JPAT.
Hopefully this helps anyone who may have the same failure.

Feel your pain Richcl. If the 'specialist' did assemble the spline dry - he should be taken to task big time!! Censored 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

hope you have more luck than me

i bought my 2003 RR 8 years ago, and to date its had 3 head gaskets one new rocker assembly. and lately the high pressure fuel pump seal failed and dumped 17 ltr of diesel into the engine. after a £2500.oo bill to find out the engine is useless, now another £2000 bill to have the engine striped and rebuilt. do i love it? its tested my bank balance.

I've recently spent another £1400 on a recon transfer box, and a week later another £83 on a height sensor!

This is my sixth year of ownership and off the top of my head the big bills have totalled £5600, not including brakes, servicing etc

Still love the car... just!

I'd only spend the money on getting a younger model Range Rover Smile
