I posted before and got some good leads to follow but the problem persists. When i fill the tank will not take more than just under 3/4, the other day befor a long trip i filled up(3/4) went to the shop and did a bit of shopping then went back to the petrol station and put in another 30litres, still reading 3/4, i had thought the transfer pump, but the last 1/4 is the top of the tank, strange. On the trip i ran it down to almost empty with the trip adviser telling me i had something like 75 klm left which sounded right.
One good thing is it will never accept more than $100 at a time. Any thoughts .

Had the same issue when I 1st bought mine, I'd try & fill up & gauge would only read 1/2full.
I spent ages filling one night before going on holiday & eventually had recovery out as trip said I only had 150 miles left & guage was 1/2 full, as I was new to FF's I thought the safety device had tripped & wouldn't re set, turns out I couldn't get any more fuel in as tank was 100% full.
Took it to dealers when back off hol & they replaced a faulty sender unit.
Sounds like similar symptoms to you, so may be worth checking out tank sender.

So you put as much in as you could, then drove to the shop before returning to the petrol station and put another 30 litres in. So just to clarify (because you're in Australia and work on a different scale map down there) How far away is the shop? It's not like half a day's drive there and back is it?

My guess is the floater at the end of the arm is leaking/porous and soaking up/filling up with petrol. That makes it heavier so it is no longer floating on top of the petrol but actually below the surface.

Otherwise it could be something with the memory of the fuel level. There is something in one of the ECUs there remembers the fuel level and it is not necessarily the same as the actual level. But usually that is after work has been done to the car. I can't remember how to correct it but do remember reading about it on the BBS forum.

First I would suggest to fill up to the brim, drive home and remove the minus of the battery. Leave the car overnight and in the morning put it back on. Maybe that resets the measurement. If that doesn't make a difference then it is time to start removing parts (fuel tank sender being the most obvious culprit). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
