Narrow tyres !!

OK so rather than ask the usual question of how wide can you go, I thought how narrow can you go?

Just got myself some 19" that I will use during the summer and thought about some winter tyres for the 18" I had on originally.

Been reading the handbook and it suggests a 235/65/18 for winter use - Seen some Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme at £60.00 (plus delivery and fitting) and thought this sounds like a plan.

Has anyone done this? I can understand the logic of having a narrower tyre (more weight/pressure) on a smaller contact patch would help in snow etc.

Guess i would have to be less enthusiastic driving when the weather is good - but I'm at that age when that's not a problem Wink

Or is it best to keep it at 255/60/18 ?

Cheers

RP

You'll see all sorts of advice on winter tyres......

Narrow is better for cutting through snow, but will be worse for stopping on a cold damp road.......

I've always stuck to standard dimensions - as I figure it has to be better from an insurance perspective.

235/65/18 Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme is an excellent choice for winters Thumbs Up Supporter and maintainer of EDF - Mrs Edfors' shopping cart.

Used to work on a farm in the 80's and 90's at 1200ft when snow was bad most winters and the best motor by a long way was the boss's Hilux fitted with Tractor tyres, truely amazing just how far that would go!!
