Ok so I'm coming up to 3 years of ff ownership with the 3.6, so I might be starting to get that new car itch......

Got as far as phoning a few dealers today, which is not usually a good sign! The 3.6 has been great and more or less not left me stranded! Though it nearly did a few times it always made it home!

Looking around prices on early 4.4 tdv8 seem to be softening a bit, but wat i suppose i am really wondering is how much better is it?

Having been in a couple it seems quieter than the 3.6, which is a good thing, and a fair bit quicker. Also less thirsty, better tech for phone/ipod, and the TFT dash. Obvious external changes aside i really cant decide whether it is such a step change that its worth putting the best part of 20k into one or keeping triggers broom.

The extra oomph that the 4.4 has would be lovely to have but mostly not needed, i have a solution for music which works well enough for me, I can afford the diesel, and there is not much wrong with the dash on mine! But I would like a stornoway with ivory car for a lighter feel inside as mine has dark tints and black which is a bit gloomy in the uk though was great in the south of france. What interests me the most is the potential for the 4.4 to be a bit better insulated from wind road and engine noise. The 3.6 is not a noisy car by most standards but is the 4.4 that much quieter day to day? Its difficult to tell from the passenger seat, on a few short drives.

Mine seems to be running well at the moment apart from the annoying trans box weep (going back for more investigation) just been serviced, managed 2000 miles to and from south of france and 1200ish miles to normandy and back with only a fixed braking judder and a (blown turbo hose). Only just ticked over 70k as well so just nicely run in!

Decisions decisions though not a bad one to have to make![/b] There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I found the 4.4 slightly noisier than my 3.6 - seems not as well insulated.

I had my 3.6 remapped & am very happy with keeping it - not worth the outlay IMHO - I'll wait for a 405

Simple answer go for a test drive, that will make your mind up - it did for me. The difference to me was immense, a lot quicker, quieter due to the 8 speed box cutting revs and better mpg - the interior was also a lot nicer.

Certainly quieter in my experience, remember the engine is also spinning more slowly at cruise. Bit sharper to drive, quite a bit quicker and more refined - most definitely a big step up.

Stan, yes i have just bought one but i am so snowed under in work that until i get time to A, run through it from top to tail & B, paint & fit the design pack & wheels etc then she will just sit in the corner looking pretty

Im not going to tax her until its all finished so potentially won't be ready/usable until Oct or even Nov sir

I do obviously still have my Silver one though for transport And the colder the weather gets..... The more the 3.6 is worth

Or get a 2010MY with all the benefits of the TFT dash and new toys but with the 3.6 engine and "Man Stick"

4.4TDV8 has Brembo brakes. The brakes on the 3.6TDV8 10MY are very poor IMO and on test drive I found myself feeling a little bit uncomfortable.

There is absolutely no comparison between the two engines. The 4.4 is light years ahead in almost every aspect, particularly fuel consumption which is noticeably better. It is also cheaper to tax. It may be a little noisier but has a very nice petrol style V8 growl under heavier acceleration.
