United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

From my experiences:

On my TD6 despite main dealer servicing they didn't replace air filters or fuel filters so I did it instead.

ON my SC I had an EML issue - turned out it was caused by crappy old spark plugs. I had them swapped (@ £18 a pop then found I could have saved £8 per plug if I'd gone on eBay) and its been fine since.

After my transmission service by Craig this week I am feeling very at peace with the condition of the car's internals, knowing all the god work that has been done on it. Discovery 4 HSE

2006 Range Rover Autobiography Supercharged Zambezi Silver

The plugs are scheduled to be changed on a SC at 105000 miles. When I had my SC, I changed them at 102000 and to be honest, the original plugs still looked 'OK'

Mine also had full LR service history when I bought it (78000 miles) and when I looked at the air filter, my guess was it was the original - it was terrible looking Big Cry

Another point to note is that the diff takes a certain quantity of oil - it's not the normal 'fill it until it pours out the filler plug' Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

Hmm, that's an interesting point about it not just being "fill it till it comes out of the hole".

My front diff took about 0.8 litres and the transfer box took a litre, both about what I was expecting. The rear diff I was expecting to take about 1.5 litres but it took about 1.3 litres till it came back out of the filler.

I'm not sure, the route I took it on last night after I'd done it wasn't really suitable to test economy and I don't use it every day. Hopefully at the weekend I'll get a chance to give it a good run.

I agree with Craig on this, a lot of components are left in cars for too long these days. Manufacturers like to "sell" low maintenance cost at the expense of reduction of reliability. It is likely to be market driven but it is still stupid IMHO.

I also like to be old school when it comes to changing oil, filters, plugs etc. just to have the peace of mind that the car will last longer and be more reliable and pleasant to drive.

I do also recognize that changing oil too early on cars has a massive environmental impact, however changing engines due to lack of maintenance / oil changes (something that Malaysia is apparently notorious for) is of course far worse. Our X-trail has done less than 100k kms and already has a replacement engine and that is not uncommon here from what I understand.

The Mercs last owner definitely didn't skimp on this as the oils are still clear (and replaced in Feb according to service sticker) despite the car having done few kms.

So I will just be a bit more environmentally unfriendly and keep replacing my engine, box and diff oils on a regular basis using top quality synthetics where possible. Especially since I hope to be keeping the 5.0 for a LONG time.

One thing that is also forgotten almost all the time is the brake fluid. It should be replaced every 2 years or so as it is seriously hygroscopic and basically corrodes your internals of the brake system. I don't do it enough either but plan it for the next FFRR service (together with all the fluids, plugs, filters of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Just a thought... Were the plugs not changed when the LPG kit was installed? I would be VERY surprised if they were not!

Maybe why they still appear new sir Whistle

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV6 Montalcino Red

after reading this post decided I should buy a couple of air filters

thinking what a clever boy I was

they arrived I set about replacing them - only to discover they had been replaced at last service by main dealer and looked brand new Confused still I now have a set for later - next time I'll look before leaping various other LR's this one is still the best

I'm confident the installer never fitted new plugs , not at a tenner a plug with no mention on the bill Laughing

plus a member on here had some problems with his car done by the same installer , one of his problems was resolved by fitting new plugs , so he definitely doesn't fit them as a matter of course.

In fairness the bloke did a very tidy installation BUT his tuning/mapping skills require some work to say the least Rolling Eyes

I ended up getting the software and lead and taught myself how to set it up so it runs well without leaning out at any time and without stretching LT or ST fuel trims to their limits.

You've got me worried with this post now Laughing

The workshop manual says that a drain and refill of the rear diff takes 1.5 litres. When I drained mine I filled it until it was coming out of the fill hole in the side of the diff and it took about 1.2 - 1.3 litres so in theory is between 200 and 300ml short. Thing is I don't see how the level can be low if it's coming back out of the filler plug on the diff Confused

Am meant to be going out this evening and was going to take the SC but am thinking I might take something else now until I've had a chance to recheck it.
