Night of the long QANGO knives | |
I wonder how much we, the taxpayer are going to have to fork out to break contracts for the folks that sit on the boards of these . I was asked to be a non-exec board member of one maritime related QANGO and the salary for 3 days a month work was in excess of £75,000pa - more than my full-time employment salary, then all travel was paid at £5 a mile if I had to use my own car but they would pay for flights to and from London or a rental car equivalent to my own car and the cost of the fuel. I was also eligible for a non-contributory pension! Pity I had to commit to working those 3 a month, every month, and that is impossible for me when I'm at sea. I fear that we are going to find out very shortly that the country is going to have to have very deep pockets to get rid of some of these folks. I have a former seafaring colleague who works at being a non-exec on as many QANGOs as he can, makes far more money at it than he ever made working at sea and he doesn't actually do anything to justify the money, let alone get dirty hands doing what little he does. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
