After spending quite a while on here and jumping between a discovery (for the seven seats) and a L322 TDV8, I'm going to buy a TDV8. Buying a RR has been a long held ambition and it feels very exciting now I have decided to take the plunge.
I am going to be looking for a 2012 Westminster or late 2011 VSE. It will be the main dealer / LR approved route for me and I'm willing to wait for the right car to come along. Having looked at a few cars already, the condition does seem to vary tremendously, even on sub 30k mileage cars.
I would welcome advice on how much checking of the car is sensible once I have found one that looks and feels right. I have read the buying guide on the WiKi and will be able to cover much of that ground but couldn't really describe myself as 'good with a spanner'. Assuming ownership story and service history check out, should I also consider an independent inspection before sealing the deal? What are the things you would prioritise checking? My sense is that the '165 checks' under LRAU are not always all carried out and the onus is firmly on the customer to point things out.
This forum really is an amazing source of knowledge and advice. Hats off to you all.
