Shocked Wow... Bad driving alright.. From the driver hogging the middle lane. The bus driver probably waited as long as he could before frustration took over. Previously..

There is NO excuse for the coach drivers actions! Plod would have something to say about using your vehicle in that intimidating manner!

Doesn’t matter what gets you wound up whilst driving a coach of that size with potentially 50+ lives onboard! Turn the other cheek, pull over for ten mins & take a break or whatever it takes to switch off! NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

You cannot avoid an incident in front if your attention is on the driver next to you to that degree!

Rule 268 of the Highway Code has this to say about undertaking: 'Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake.

In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right

It was congested so he didn't need to attempt to ram my children and I, pushing us into the outside lane, he could have carried on.

Do I send the footage to the coach operator?

Contraband, are you a coach driver? Whistle

I'm not defending the coach driver., he's a fool.. I'm saying frustration at an idiot sitting in the middle lane made him do it.
It was not so congested that you couldn't have moved over to the left, your video is proof of that. Previously..

The Highway Code is not the law - it's also full of contradictions on this point - I've been to court on this one - and found not guilty - it's that last point in the quote that makes all the difference - if you move to the left with the intention to pass, then you're liable for a Careless Driving charge. However, if you're in the left hand lane & maintain your speed in congested conditions, then that's OK. "Undertaking" is not an offence - it's evidence of Careless Driving.

IMHO it's the intentional drifting over the white line that is the issue here - his subsequent hand signal makes it clear that that was an intentional manoeuvre.

I would be sending this to the coach company - as the hand signal reflects on them.

You could consider sending it to the police force covering the stretch of road concerned - but it's a risk - as staying in the middle lane when it's possible to move to the left is also evidence of careless driving. You can make a defence that lane 3 is moving at around the same speed - but the counter is that if everyone moved to the left, then lane 3 would be clear & flowing....

Sorry contraband you are completely wrong.

1. The inside lane was not available to Mark (in the middle lane) as there was traffic moving past inside him.
2. The coach driver had no need to pull into the middle lane as the inside lane ahead was completely clear for many hundreds of meters.
3. His actions and poor driving technique (one handed) endangered the lives of his passengers and other road users.

The Coach dvr is a Censored Kn*b. He is one of many reasons why I will never travel by coach. The only ones worse are dumper truck drivers who think 50 mph in a 30 is quite alright (at least the ones around Bristol do!!)

Action points:
1. Send the film to his MD
2. Send one to plod and ask for him to be "talked" to!!

Shocked Dolphinboy... Watch the video again. And look closely at what you typed. This is getting silly now.

In your point 1 you say the inside lane was not available to mark.
In your point 2 you say the inside lane was clear for many hundreds of meters.
???????
The fact the bus driver is a tool is not in dispute.

I'm just not understanding why everyone is defending Middle lane hogging. Previously..

Hi contra,

No-one hates middle lane hoggers more than me Evil or Very Mad and am not wanting to get into anything fractious, but..

1. several cars passed him on the inside before the coach (hence it was not clear to move in).
2. He may have been waiting for the outside lane to clear so he could overtake the car in front (who was also sitting in the middle lane)
3. My point 2 is correct as the coach was coming along inside (and may have been seen by Mark) so it was NOT clear to move in ... the coach still did Not need to pull out into the middle and as it was clear ahead in the inside lane.

alles Klar Herr Kommissar? Thumbs Up

Impossible to tell from such a short clip

I'd put the middle lane/passing on the inside as 50/50

For me, the clear issue is pulling across the white line - quite deliberately as is apparent from the hand signal - no argument on that one.

Anyway.... I would pass the video onto the bus drivers employers. He put lives at risk and no matter what reason he may have it is unacceptable. Previously..

The coach driver is trying to get across to a gap that doesnt exist - he is using the size of his vehicle to try and "create" a gap that isn't there. I travel on the motorway almost every day and see this all the time. People forget it's mirror, signal, manouver - not manouver, signal, mirror.

Ring his employer and complain. No company likes to be spalshed across you tube in this manner.

Darren.
