Oil for a Supercharged RR

Hi all

New to the forum, but I have been involved with Land Rovers for 40 years. I have owned many over the years and currently own a 1986 RRC 3.5 efi road legal but heavily modified for offroad. Just purchased a 2007 RR S/C, retirement present to myself.

Anyway, what engine oil is the best to use in my new RR, it has covered 108,000 miles and will be used maily for country road driving a little off road during the season and some motorway work.

Castrol, Shell, Mobil or another. Fully or Part Synthetic. Is 5w-30 still OK

Many thanks
Smile

Castrol A1 5w30 is the official stuff. But you can get the same spec or better in Millers, Valvoline, Shell etc. Check out Opie Oils (Site sponsor) as their prices are pretty good, especially when they have an offer on. Shell Helix Ultra meets the spec and is fully synthetic.

Now I'm totally confused. Question Confused

I thought the right oil for my 5.0L Supercharged was 5W20. That's what it says in the owners handbook. Called the dealer they said: "If it's Mobile one then it's 0W30. If it's Castrol then 0W20"

I just want to get a bottle of top up oil for just in case. I'm in the UK in 'ordinary' conditions with relatively high mileage vehicle: 68,000 miles. Which one do I get just to top up when and if required?

I'm thinking that actually the slightly higher viscosity of a fully synthetic 5W30 as mentioned in the earlier posts might be a good idea for a top up? 2012 5.0L S/C

Hi. Having just done this myself, I used Mobil 3000 X1 Formula FE 5w - 30. Which is currently on offer at sdroflaH.

Nomad, the 5.0 and 4.4tdv8 engines have different oil requirements to the older 4.2sc and 3.6tdv8, hence the different recommendations.

The OP was after oils for the 4.2 so 5w30 sounds right in ford spec wss m2c 913 not sure whether b or C though! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks. Didn't mean to hijack the post.

My confusion isn't with the posts above its with the dealer whose recommendation is different to the owners handbook (5W20) for my 2012 5.0L. And why would Mobil (0W30) and Castrol (0W20)be recommended at different viscosities for the same engine? It's all a bit daft. Go with the dealer or stick to the manual? Or go with a slightly heavier oil (5W30) as it's a high mileage engine? 2012 5.0L S/C
