England 2009 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black
Alloy stuck on hub

Got home this evening to find a flat nearside rear!!

Jacked her up, wheel nuts off, but no way was the wheel coming off the hub, despite trying all sorts of whacks and levering it just will not budge!

I've done a search on this subject and found a few replies on the same topic from 2011, most suggestions I've tried without success and just wondered if anyone had any other ideas 4 years on?

Any help would be appreciated!

large rubber mallet to the rear of the wheel, not many other successful ways really. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Get some air in the tyre. Put nuts on but with enough play that the wheel would wobble about. Then drive it slowly down the street with hard left/right turns of the steering wheel.
If that doesn't budge it then reverse it slowly at a kerb and see if the weight/shock will release it from the hub

If all else fails, place a wooden block against the inside of the wheel and then will a large club hammer give it a major wallop. Regards

I'm in the RAC but don't think my package includes Home Start so not not sure if this is covered on my membership, I'll ring them tomorrow to check then if not it's out with the club hammer I guess !

And once it's off, put some copper grease on the back of it - then take all the others off & do the same.

If you're going to hit it - then make sure you have a good jack & not the scissor one from the boot.

How quickly does it go flat ? Can you drive far enough away from home - then call the RAC ? ideally to a mates house or pub, as you could be waiting a while - but atlas they will have the proper equipment.

If it will wait until tomorrow - can you drive to a local garage ?

get a 6 or 8ft length of 4x2" timber from a DIY shop, loosen the nuts off, jack it up and stick the wood in behind the wheel and lever the wheel off against the brake disc/caliper. It's easier than trying to swing a mallet which normally hits just about everything but the wheel (because it's awkward to swing it under there)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I jacked it up on the "sprinter" jack recommended on here that I bought after it fell off the scissor jack a couple of years ago when I previously had to change a wheel! Then with a 4lb lump hammer I bought whacked carefully against a piece of 4" x 2" on the back side of the wheel and away it came Thumbs Up

When I'd got the wheel off I thought I'd have a look to see if I could find the offending nail or whatever had caused the flat and was horrified to find the tyre separating at the edge where the side wall starts over a length of about 6 - 8 inches and the metal inner core showing in the gap! Considering I've recently been towing the tin tent down through France and back and down to Dorset and back and several other longish trips I consider myself lucky it hadn't blown on any of those journies but instead waited until it was on my drive before deflating Shocked

The spare was not in particularly good condition so it's now booked in for 2 new tyres which will go on the back, the fronts were new last year so should now be set up for a few thousand more miles.

I'd have the other side checked as well whilst you are at it, has the tyre worn unevenly? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Slightly more wear on the inner edge but I did have it checked for alignment and camber etc on that machine I can't remember the name of now and it came up with a clean bill of health, all settings bang on! The spare at the moment came off the other side a while ago so I'm putting 2 new ones on to be sure and as the fronts were new only last year then it'll be all good

for future ref. stuck wheel remote change.the way I do it is face away from car and donkey kick tyre at 12,and 6 o clock. a few times often starts it rocking. Very Happy it is better to have and not need then need and not have

May I suggest boiling water poured thru a spoke to hit the centre area of the wheel. It's worked for me.

A block of wood and a heavy hammer sorted it for me,not too crazy but there is not much point stroking it like the dog!
