305 40 22

I'm looking to get a set of 22" alloy wheels for my car and am considering a different tyre size.

I was looking at 305 40 22 rather than the standard 285 35 22

Can anyone foresee an problems with that setup?

Has it been done before? If so any pics would be great?

No personal experience but see tyre size options on 22s thread below on this page, it looks like these would rub on your wheel arches. Only Range Rovers since 1988

They will rub sir... I have 275.40.22 and have been advised 285.40.22 also work very well...

& cue gratuitous picture of 305/40R22 tyre!! (Side tubes now removed )

Craig is correct - they can rub a tad with suspension compression and you need a heat gun to deform the rear wheel arch liner where it goes around the filler tube. The rears have 6mm spacers fitted but I don't they are necessary and removing them may help to reduce compression rubbing. The fronts also just touch the wheel arch liner vents when on big lock

However, I'll definately be fitting the same size again if I stick to 22s - I like big rubber with big wheels

As per my post that was linked too, I ended up getting 285/40x22 recently and the improvement over ride quality over the old 285/35's you wouldnt believe!

Totally transformed the ride quality, you might struggle to get much of a selection of tyre brands, I hunted high and low and found 3 or 4 maximum, ranging from £100 per corner for a budget tyre (allegedy imported or made by a more famous brand) or Conti's for about £250 a piece

Very impressed with the size and will definately stick to these. I did look at the 305/40 originally as I found some well known brands for I think £100-£120 a piece, but the rubbing/wheel arch mods others speak of put me off

Are you running spacers on your car due to the tyre width?
