had a test done on my 2007 v8 vogue today by a rr dealer and a crack in the rocker box cover was found, this caused the heavy exhaust smoke, along with this both EGR valves need replacing too, so been quoted best part of 2k to do the work.

There seems to be a bit of a pattern of catastrophic turbo failure not too long after EGR replacements - do a search

Generally, they have been pretty reasonable on costs for a dealer. They were cheaper than a local Independent for the egrs and their service cost was pretty similar as well. Some negotiation needed as always but if you don't ask.... MY 2007 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE
