Is An RSE Retrofit possible?

Hi all

Does anyone know if the factory RSE can be retrofitted into my VSE, either the headrest screen type or the large backrest screens from the LWB / newer ones? I don't believe LR has a kit to do this and since my planned iPad link up is crap I thought Id see about a screen retrofit?

Buying another with screens already will be expensive, as I'm sure this will be too, but thought Id ask anyway?

Thanks

Carl

Anything is possible, just depends how much money you have, ask Craig, I'm sure he could do it for you.... Thumbs Up Pete

What does that mean ?

I'd go with iPads every time - way cheaper and more useful than RSE

Cant get the pad to connect to the RR, and uncertain about the quality / reliability of the mobile WiFi options that will give an internet connection which was going to be a major plus for the pad.

I don't know what the RSE option is on the L405, but on the L322 there was a 10 disk DVD changer - each screen could either watch the TV (poor on the move) or the same DVD or an external source

My kids always used their iPads & ignored the RSE

Films, TV from BBC iPlayer or games

Plus you can take them anywhere, they are not stuck to the seats in the back of the RR

I'm sure there's some people with very young kids who love the RSE - but for me it was a complete waste of time

Why do the iPads need to connect to the RR ?

Mine have lived happily without wifi

Do you have any experience with these mobile wifi gadgets, if so, is the signal good enough to justify the monthly subscription?

Something like a MiFi ?

They work well, but still dependent on the 3/4G reception wherever you happen to be.

I've not used one on the go - only in a hotel & at a conference.

Most mobile phones allow tethering - I'd try that on your existing contract - as a trial if you can - might not even need an additional device.

On an iPhone it's Settings - Personal Hotspot
The phone would then appear as a WiFi option for your other devices
Just make sure you have a good enough inclusive data allowance

I'm with 3 - which is great value - but reception is not as good as some other networks

That said, they do free international roaming to a bunch of countries, so I usually get a better - and still free - service abroad

IMO for a good RSE you need
- 10" iPad or Samsung galaxy tab,
- A seagate Wifi HDD(security updates to it are essential)
- A decent MiFi unit

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Wireless-P...agate+wifi

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-E5377s-32-M...words=mifi

Now the above 2 devices can run off USB 12v that your boot accessory socket can supply.

I cant recall if the 405 has boot floor cubbys that have a cover like the 322 has, but if it does they could both be setup, and then plumbed in using an accessory socket adapter so that when the journeys come, you simply plug it in when you put stuff in the boot and its ready when you finally get the family in. Then unplug when you get to the other end or stopping for more than an hour to stop the battery becoming too drained.

Then the hardest thing is finding that supports the iPad/Tab at the right height for each nipper Smile Bluetooth headphones then are whats needed for total cable avoidance Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

FYI out of all the networks i find 3 is the best for main road coverage even at 3G speeds it covers more roads than the likes of O2...

Also tethering is a sticky subject. A lot of contracts dont include it and a high portion of those that do only have a small amount. Kids can go through data like a trick or treat sweet bin! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

4GB per month tethering on Three as a general guideline ..... which is not even one whole HD film. Land Rover Addict

Sorry to have to ask but why do I need the Seagate HDD unit kingpleb? I was hoping to plug the Huawei unto into the car without the need to wire anything in, I was thinking about one of those on a contract basis anyway but hadn't realised the need for the the Seagate unit because I just don't understand this stuff to be honest?

Bluetooth headphones are chosen and I have an iPad holder (a BMW one actually) so just need to get the set up, then hopefully find a way to get my pad connected, it wouldn't connect to the RR?

Thanks

Carl

The Seagate HDD is just to store a larger amount of content (films)

May be a nice feature to have but not essential - same with the Huawei

both can be added later.

Minimum requirement is an iPad & headphones - you can download enough content for several trips onto the iPad

You can add seat back holders, bluetooth headphones etc as you go

I really wouldn't rely on downloading much - cellular connectivity is good for websites like Facebook, Instagram or whatever they are into this week, but video is best downloaded over home wifi or similar.

What's the best way to connect the iPad to the RR please? I know Bluetooth is on because I just paired my Nokia Windows Phone to it but I cant get the pad to find the RR when I go into My Music or whatever it is, should I go into the section for pairing a phone, I wanted to use the speakers in the car when playing movies stored on the pad sometimes because my daughter is too young to leave headphones or her head.

I'd find the right headphones - even if it requires a wire Thumbs Up

You will have to fight the battle at some point as that drivel will drive you mad - may as well start the right way Very Happy

I think you will only be able to pair one device with the car at any point in time - so you would lose phone connectivity you did manage to get Bluetooth working

Mines not here to try at the moment - and I'm not sure it would work anyway - but is BlueTooth turned on for the iPad - Settings > Bluetooth ? Do that in the car & see if the car comes up on the list of devices the iPad can see.

I've not tried Bluetooth audio streaming on mine & won't be able to experiment until Wednesday
