TDV8 for about £14k

Chaps,

It looks like the sale of my wife's Mini has fallen through (he can't get finance) but all being well the S6 should be picked up on Thursday.

This will give me the a budget of the Mini and £5k or about £14k once the Mini goes.

Current favourite for me would be a TDV8 in a dark colour but with rear seat entertainment - is £14k likely to be a decent enough budget for a nice one? Basically think Martyn's car here

but with a TDV8.

Advice appreciated.

Cheers!

Phil

You're in the right price range, but read up on the potential issues with the 3.6 TDV8 and do what you can to buy a good one

There will be plenty of ropey ones around too, so don't be in too much of a hurry - but I'm sure you'll find something.

Post up any adverts you're interested in, there's usually a few folk who are happy to comment on specific examples Thumbs Up

I could do you a nice silver one with 84k in January if you are interested, superb condition inside and out . All oils changed recently including gearbox/diffs .. new turbo hoses, discs and pads , lots of other preventative maintenance as well. air suspension has just had a full check over and re calibration .
car has no faults

Also - do a search on RSE - personally I think it's a complete waste of time - I've had 3 cars with it & it never really got used - my kids were much happier with their iPads.

The older the car, the more dated the RSE looks - on the RR the screen is fairly small and there is a 10 DVD changer in the boot - there's also 2 aux in sockets - so both rear screens can display the DVD, TV or either aux input.

The only thing RSE really adds is that you can control it from the front screen, so some advantage for very young children, but beyond that, I would buy them a tablet of some description every time Thumbs Up

good comment about the RSE Alistair, ive heard a few mention the same thing , waste of time these days with the modern tech that's out there, id go for the best car rather than the best car with RSE , dark colours are not for me, lighter colours wear better.

My Fatty has a tv that ive never watched, a reversing camera that is not worth looking at , parking sensors that I just ignore ect , half of this stuff you think you want until you get it !

^^rse definitely a waste of time. If you have 2 kids they have to watch the same film! Which just results in an argument about what to watch Big Cry

iPads and headphones = peaceful journey!

£14k should get you a decent tdv8 but budget to have the gearbox, diff and transfer box oils changed asap. You may find that some of the bushes are starting to go, which are cheap and easy, and also swap the top turbo hoses as soon as poss.

Buy on condition not milage! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have the rear system but I guess it was not a factory fit.

IT has the 2 screen but each one can play a separate film (top loader) and has some (albeit crappy) games built in.

I only have one younger son now so it's only really one I have to worry about but on occasion he has had a mate in the back and can "share" the film with the other persons screen as well....

I like it - Keeps him quiet on long journeys. The only time he asks me if we are nearly there is to find out if he has time for another film..!!! Smile Ash

Probably a Rosen system, in which case yes you will be able to play 2 different films, on the factory Rse the signal comes from the dvd in the boot so it plays what's in the changer.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I actually concluded after looking at a couple at that price point that £14k wasn't really enough to get me where I needed to be but having said that the silver one above looks quite nice Smile

I decided to re-visit it next year and maybe up the budget to £20k ish.

Thanks!

Phil

A bit North of £16k might be the sweet spot. But I might have a vested interest in saying that ...
