Supercharged jaguar engine

I'm looking for a little advice please .
Due to my girlfriend loving everything about it (apart from the mpg)
We have no decided to keep this car for the foreseeable future , so I'm starting to build a plan to rebuild and improve it .
I've done a bit of research on the things that I see as needing immediate attention ... Engine Noise , wind noise , vibration , but now I'm looking at long term maintenance/rework.

The car is an 07 supercharged , and it as now done around 115k , and will go up around 30k a year .
Then engine seems fine but after an hour at 80-ish Whistle when I pull off the freeway I can here a tappet noise from the drivers side (LHD) .
Any advice on an oil change that can cure this ?
Or what kind of mileage are you guys seeing before you need a top-end rebuild ?

Try a oil engine internal flush, and a new oil pump on the engine, it will be getting tired.

The engine is pretty good, but does suffer from head gaskets in its later life.

All radiator cores and the thermostat are highly recommended to change to remove the normal core deteriation of the cooling system, with belts and all tensioners being replaced, water pump wood be a wise move when in this far as is a altenator, cost is nominal against the work to get back in to this engine area Thumbs Up

Suspension is upper and lower arms with inner and outer tie rods. Have the upper strut bearings checked as well, SC has different shocks and air bag units which are not cheap, but the ride quality if you find play in the strut with a new one is night and day.

Get a very good Indy, or take it to one on the forum to get the job done right Thumbs Up Current vehicles

Thanks for the info .
Pretty much what I was planning , Apart from the upper shock bearings .
How do you check these and is it a full strip down to get them ?

I asked the local Indy about doing the front suspension piecemeal or all at once , and they told me it can be done part at a time with no extra labour so it's booked in for roll bar links and ballpoint and bearing in one of the arms .
With the other arm being replaced entirely in the near future .
If it's a "take it all apart" job to do the upper bearings , then I'll get everything replaced at the same time while it's all apart .

Recommend doing all at once as full tracking and camber is required, that's about another £100 cost...

Do both lower arms as they see a massive load during braking and you won't want one side on worn soft bushes for the sake of £70 Shocked Current vehicles

It it having both sides done at once , I just worded it wrong .
Apparently there are 2 arms at the front and they said the one that goes towards the rear of the car would be the one to do first .

Yes it's the load arm for travel front to rear and lateral support, but would just drop the lot and replace all at once or the new tension will put more heavy load onto the original arms left..... Can make the handking scarey in this occurrence Current vehicles

Ok thanks .
That will be my new plan .
Are the top mounts rubber ?

The reason i started this whole thing was the condition of the rubber on the car after it has been sun baked since 07 .
I figured the rubbers underneath will be much worse Smile

Tops are pre-mounded rubber with steel inserts and centre bearing retained within it, does all the work of steering and takes all the knocks through the suspension Thumbs Up Current vehicles

Are the top mounts on these separate or part of the air strut? Ie can you replace just the top mount?

ThAts a question I was asking myself yesterday .
I ended up contacting Marvin at armott as a complete front unit is only $350 and at this price it's something I'm considering replacing anyway so everything is new .
He also told me thd differences between sc and non-sc shocks as I'm looking for more freeway commuting comfort so thinking of fitting "normal"

So are you saying the top mounts aren't separate items?

Yes from what I found .
I need to ask the dealers if there is a part number though . Couldn't find anything other than complete units on the online-shop simplified drawings .

Top mounts are a separate part, and around £40 each.

Never fitted them though, so no idea what it's like to fit them

Likewise, I can't seem to find separate top mounts. I wanted to do them as part of a general front end refresh - my supercharged has done 198k

Hey Mikey , that's great news !!!
Do you have a part number by any chance ?
I figured they where a seperate part that bolted onto the shock as arnott and others sell seperate bags and shocks , but never found anything online .
Hopefully I can ask my local parts guy when I finally go picking parts up tomorrow to reassemble the front screen plastics .
But seeing as it's took him 3 weeks upto now to work out what I want for that little job ......

Smile
