The special Land-Rover tools are just a very long spanner to give more leverage and a locking tool to grip the water pump pulley. It's a lot easier with them but you can manage with out them.

You also need to drain the coolant system, as it's a water cooled altenator |

I just took the alternator off, then you don't drain any more than you need to, seals with an "O" ring so no silicon etc needed, then just top it up when your finished.... Pete
