Power Pack/Jump Pack.

As some of you are aware i am having a few on/off problems with my FF.

For a short term fix i was going to purchase a power pack to keep in the car so the Wife can use to jump if she is stuck.

the product in question is the Ring RPP265 unit.

im picking this as its has a charge cradle and will be easy for the Wife to use.

Is there another Jump pack/power pack that you guys have and would recommend?

It weights 17KG - so it is a bit on the heavy side.

But it does have a big battery - Just required charging every couple of months and it's ready to go.

It does have long jumper leads, about a meter long if I remember so it's easy to find a spot for it under the bonnet if there is only one of you getting it started.

Just had a thought - I had to jump start a customers Merc estate (dont ask me what it was but it was massive!!) He had air in the fuel supply and it took about 5 mins of turning over in total before it fired up - It was still spinng over nice and quickly so I gues it does not need a charge after each start..

It depends how good / permanent a solution you want

There are many who say you shouldn't jump start a FFRR - but maybe that's just from another vehicle Confused

I would recommend fitting the pack with an Anderson connector - fit another one permanently to the car and a decent quality set of jump leads with connectors too.

That way it's easy - you have a decent reach - its close to fool proof in that you won't get the polarity wrong - and it's safer as you get a good connection and the final connection is mid cable, rather than close to a battery.

I bought 2 sets of 4.5m jump leads, so I have enough reach to go all the way round the car, so if it happened to be put whilst parked and boxed in, I could still connect it up.

All my cars are fitted the same.

That Clarke's 4000 looks the stuff! plus its cheaper than the one i want.

I was just trying to find something that she (Wife) can handle.

We use a tiny Anti-Gravity Battery for jump-starts.

Don't knock them! It's started my FF on 3 occasions from fully-flat, my 2.5 litre Jaguar, my 2.9 diesel motorhome and my 5.8 litre Mustang without any problems whatsoever.

And, yes, my wife has used it without any problems on the Jaguar.

It's a heavy lump, you don't want to carry it far, but pretty much anyone can carry it as far as the car.

You top up the charge after each use, but sometimes i don't bother and it still works fine. It also comes with a 12v lead to charge it in the boot if you want.

The cheaper 12v only one is probably just as good, just not quite as well finished. I didn't need the 24v aspect, but if i recall correctly it has a slightly larger battery in it.
The charging dock on the ring one looks neat, but the clarke ones just have a normal plug in mains adaptor, so aren't especially difficult to connect.

that Micro-Start XP-10 is nuts!

Just watched several you tube clips and its works, it was kick starting American cars with 5 and 6 lirte diseal blocks.

dam you all, i was hoping you'd all agreed on 1 or 2 types of product but you have opened my eyes to others.

No issues for your wife to carry, either.

And it'll charge from 12v and 240v sockets.

Believe me, they really DO work. More often, mine isn't even fully charged when being used and it sill starts whatever we plug it onto. Si. <This is my name.

Just to add to the mix, I bought one of these

and it starts the TDV8 from completely flat.
It comes with all the connectors required for charging phones/laptops as well.
If you take the unit itself out of its carry case it fits perfectly in the bottom of the centre cubby box and with the car charger can be charged on the go, hidden from view, so it's always to hand, fully charged and very easy to use.
Very good value too.
