I'm looking to install my Alinco DR635 2m/70cm ham rig in the L322 but finding somewhere to do it might be an issue. I also want to fit my UHF CB radio in the vehicle.

Both have detachable faces and can be controlled from the microphone so that helps as the main unit can be hidden away.

Has anyone installed amateur gear and have they had issues with the L322 electronics. (I tried a Codan HF transceiver in my P38A and when I keyed the mike, it shut down the engine. )

Haven't tried it. Transmitting on HF unlocks the Disco 2 outside the house! However, there seems to be a few who have done it. http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/6-range-r...ennas.html

Can't help with the HF but fitted a UHF into the LM, made a bracket that bolts into the front for the aerial

another bracket to bolt the UHF to and that bracket is bolted using existing bolts behind the dash trim

so everything can be removed without leaving any marks or holes.

Couple of photos of the aerial mount using existing holes just increased the bolt length by 5mm

Excellent, thanks Tony. Did you have to adjust the bonnet catch? I like the bracket, I didn't want a bracket to exit through the grille.

Also, like the fact you haven't drilled the interior panels.

I wrore above that the UHF had a removable face plate. That was my previous UHF (in the P38A). This one (Oricom 380) is tiny and will probably fit in the sunglasses holder.

There is enough of a gap between the bottom lip of the bonnet and the top of the grill to get a 4-5mm plate in-between
as long as its bent at the correct angles.

I looked at fitting one in the sun glass holder hole but I thought it was better off keeping the sunnies safe
as I tend to brake a few in summer

Unfortunately I left the sunnies holder in the P38A when I sold it. I didn't realise until until the buyer asked what it was (it was a genuine LR accessory that screwed on where the Driver's side hand hold would have fitted above the door). Ron B. VK2OTC

Interesting, been thinking about how to fit a radio on EDF, but SWMBO don't like the idea as much, must be a way where it's not intrusive in any way. And the antenna has to work in low ceiling parking garages as well. Look forward to see more ideas about installations. Supporter and maintainer of EDF - Mrs Edfors' shopping cart.

What sort of radio are you looking to fit?

Re the antenna, for the 477MHz UHF CB I'll be using a ground independent 7dB whip. (I won't bother with 27MHz CB.)

For the 2m/70cm, I have a Diamond NR=770H

I have yet to look at folding mounts. If the antennae are mounted at the front like ziggy shows above, I won't need a folding mount. The problem is that the new laws are a bit fussy about sharp projections at the front of a vehicle. Ron B. VK2OTC

Well, no need for a full amateur rig really, since the L322 is what she drives most, there is no other need than 27 Mhz, which the local and national LR clubs use here, I can have whatever other stuff in my Discoverys, so this limits it some and then it must have other features like green background illumination and as said as small as possible, but the most limiting factor is Auto Squelch. So this has limited me to look at the President products. Grant II ASC or Lincoln II ASC. If I could get away without the ASC I would go for the spare Alan 42 I have in the garage.

Or if I could change the LED's on a William ASC.

Not HF but I've fitted both a CB and VHF set to mine - both easily removable.

The way I mounted the VHF was to use one of my roof-rack mounts (without the rack fitted) into the roof channels and then had a small bracket with a suitable hole drilled into it. Could then route the cable down between the upper tailgate and rear post, down to the bottom of the boot and there's plenty of give in the rubber seal to take it into the boot. Then couple of cable ties to the grab handles to route it to the front where the radio sat.

I think the gutter mounts are a decent choice since you can get a decent ground plane up there and conveniently there's already an M6 (I think from memory) hole tapped there for you. Never got around to building something better as the quick lash up worked really well.

I was considering a CB setup that had a detachable front panel so the base unit can be mounted in the boot and the head unit routed to the front of the vehicle. Mate had a brand-new spare CB which I got instead so didn't go down that route. Although I might strip it down and extend the front panel controls so the main unit can be housed elsewhere. If I get adventurous (or more realistically have more time) I might do some more reading / hacking into the MOST system and see whether it can be integrated into the head unit... (don't hold your breath!) Ed
