Gearbox oil change - new issues

Hi all
Events to date. Rumble from gear box on steep hills and hard acceleration. Changed oil and filter. Excellent results. Gearbox box very smooth and step change from 2nd to 1st at junctions gone. However rumble still present. Developed to more like driving over a cattle grid. Rest of gear box functions perfect. Aargh. Most likely it was the torque converter all this time. Replaced torque converter with recon unit. Rumble and cattle grid. Gone. All good. However gearbox not as smooth. Can best be described as 'notchy' and snatches (not bangs) but snatches at some gears if free wheeling into a junction etc.

Any views ? Should I get the garage to drain once more and refill to see if this cures the issues? I am puzzled as I don't have any concerns with regards to the overall condition of the gearbox as it was so so smooth when we originally changed the oil. It's only now since we replaced the TC that I have these new issues. As I understand it the TC is only active between 30 and 40mph so if this was the cause it wouldn't affect all gears would it ? Does software need updating as part of a TC replacement ? I am puzzled what to do next. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

Is the problem still there when running in sport or manual mode?

Maybe the ECU needs to 'learn' the new TC 2004 L322 V8

Did they reset the gearbox adaptations when the replaced the TC? I ask as resetting these can sometimes cause issues and actually make the gearbox worse. Updating the software seems ok but resetting the gearbox is not apparently a good idea! Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The symptoms you have are normally rectified with a drain and refil , or a level check .
If you have just had mechanical work done , it should go back to check the level .

With a new torque converter and pan , you're running a lot of fresh oil in there so it points to a level issue , and once that is checked ok a software update can make things a little smoother .

I was reading some literature this weekend about doing a couple of drain and refills after a new torque converter has been fitted , but I can't find it now .
Seeing as you had a drain and refill before the new tc maybe one more is in order , but I don't know .
All zf say is to check the level after work on the transmission .
