Per a previous post of mine, I'm thinking about changing my L322 this year.

Choices are (1) keep the L322 - 62 plate Westminster with 70,000 miles (2) new L405 4.4 AB or (3) new 911 C4S.

I love RR, a lovely place to be. But, I struggle with (1) the poor infotainment for the price point and (2) too many reports of quality issues - a friend of mine has really struggled with an SE 405, got it rejected and replaced with AB, and now that is having troubles!

I now have a Defender for the off road stuff though (shooting etc), so I don't NEED the RR as much as I did when it was my only car.

I've always had an itch for a 911. So this weekend I'm test driving one. The C4S isn't out yet, so it's the C2S. What an amazing car. Well screwed together. As for the performance! It's very competent at handling rough road surfaces too.

I think this may be a difficult decision. My head seems to be saying 405. But my heart (and wife) is saying 911.

Good luck with whatever you choose but personally I find the choice between one or the other a little bizarre. I'd consider the Porsche in addition to but not instead of a ffrr but then we are all different.

From my personal previous experience of Porsche (Boxster and 911), the infotainment is as woeful as RR.

Based on what you posted, I would definitely get the 911. I owned one before I had children and loved it. Still find myself wanting another, but I can't justify it (even though my kids are the perfect age to fit in the back seats!)

If you've already got a Defender, then go for it. Look forward to hearing the feedback post test drive!

PS just get a C2S - that's what I had, and never felt myself wishing I had the 4. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

I agree that a 911 seems an odd replacement for a FF, but we're all different and I recall a previous FFRR member doing something similar a few years ago, too. I'm sure that was Porsche-related as well.

I recognise it's a bizarre option. With no kids it's only me in the RR 99% of the time. So I'm free to go with what appeals.

I cover around 20,000 miles a year, and the RR is perfect for effortless stressless driving. I was expecting the suspension/focus of the 911 to rule it out straight as a day to day car. But far from it. 180 miles of motorway, A and B roads (including some in pretty bad condition) and I could see myself living with the 911 very easily. And as Ian notes the engine is just, utterly, incredible. I ride motorbikes too, but the sheer brute power of the 911 is mind blowing.

As the test drive continues the gap between heart and head is widening. I suspect I'll stay with RR, but ... My wife is certainly pushing me to go the 911 route though. I'm sure it's part of a plan to use it at the weekends!

I'd go with the "get what you want" crowd. Enjoy.

But, one question. You mentioned 20k mikes/year. At that amount, are you up to doing them all in a spirited manner? The Porsche sounds like amazing fun, but not necessarily relaxing. The FFRR's forte is calmly munching through the miles.

The Porsche (and overly fast) thing is out of my system - I have a Defender and RR and love them both

My best friend has a '14 plate Turbo S (now that really is quick) and my brother-in-law a '12 plate Carrera 4 GTS and they are both very nice, but to be honest, I think they are 'pointlessly' quick, a very hard ride (inevitably) and just too 'one dimensional'

I love my combo and won't be buying another 'sportscar' anytime soon and certainly can't imagine doing 20k miles a year in one.

Been there... If you have an itch then it will need scratched...so do it.
I went to buy a 911 and ended up buying a Cayman instead as it seemed a better buy after the test drives.
I've only done about 4000 miles in 3 years but it's good fun when I have the time to play in it. Previously..

To address some of the last points .

Yes , the porsche suspension and ride will be different to the range rovers But bear in mind the porsche active suspension option has been said to give a more compliant ride on "normal" setting than a car with "normal" suspension .

Is it live able as a daily ?
YES !!!
My c4s was bought with daily use in mind .
With certain options it is the ultimate "dual purpose" sports car , just like my range rover is the ultimate "dual purpose" 4x4 .
Ironically , the mileage on the c4s made me buy a boxster to relieve its duties , and fact I couldn't get my girlfriend to let me use the boxster and the impracticality of grocery shopping etc made me buy a ffrr .




However ...

Although 20k a year on the road is easily done in a well optioned 911 , it will take a hit on depreciation and will be nowhere near relaxing as 20k a year in an l322

I can give lots of advice on Porsches if you are determined to buy one , but my advice is :
If you are in a position to own both , keep the rr as the main daily and buy a 911 for occasional daily use .
Bear in mind an older one is less likely to impress the average guy on the street who is not a car enthusiast , but is more likely to appreciate

You better be quick if you're planning on making money out of Porsches though , as the market shows no signs of slowing and many have missed the boat already

(Save your money , keep the l322 , and buy the best 3.2 or preferably 964 carrera2 you can find
