i had three leaks and a pipe and was very mucky, just the additives making it congeal

Ok put it all back together and it began to leak again, I traced the leak back to the thermostat housing.

Took it all apart again and found the oring damaged. I must have been a bit rough putting it together.

I put coolant on the oring to help assembly maybe I need a better lubricant to help it slide into place.

Any tips on how to do it without damaging the oring would be appreciated.

Hi Paul.
I used some vaseline (petroleum jelly). Some on the O ring and a good smear around the hole in the block.
Don't worry about the slight contamination in the water/antifreeze mix, the small amount wont make any difference.
Make sure the hole is clean. I cleaned ours up with some 400 grit wet & dry as it was slightly pitted.

I do have a new thermostat waiting, but housing is still intact. No leaks. Car is -09/-10 model.

Doing this job tomorrow, had a look through the write up, you guys are legends, makes it so much easier having a step by step guide to work to,
