What do you guys do when replacement keys are needed? rang dealer and they want £270! 😳 for the crappy bmw style blade. Cars a 55 plate. Surely there's other options to main dealer?

Not too many other alternatives as most places won't cut the keys and even when they have, you still need to get it paired with the car. So if you can find a blank, it's worth ensuring you know the costs and availability of the cutting & pairing before you commit.

You could try Daveo on here - he may have a spare set of keys left over from a group buy or may be planning another..?
