New Key Fob - how to programme

I'm thinking of getting a third Key Fob as a spare and also possibly a Park Pre-Heater fob as I only have the one.

If I buy a second hand 433mhz key fob can they be reprogrammed and if so who do people suggest will do it cost effectively?

If I really wanted can you also have the new physical key bits made too?

I read somewhere the once a key is programmed you might not be able to reprogrammer it etc..

Many thanks

Scott

Dealers can definitely do it - whether they will do one not bought from them is a different question....

Mine had a recall for the locks, that required the keys to be reprogrammed - so I bought another off eBay & didn't say anything, just gave them all 3 keys when they did the work & all 3 work just fine. Obviously the eBay one doesn't have the right blade - or any blade as I threw it away, so only good as a remote, but fine for me as a spare Thumbs Up

Does anyone know where i can program a key fob
used to do this with my http://www.foxwelltool.com/wholesale/nt301...eader.html
on my LR3, but it seems i can't do this on my L405 2013
it also seem the iid tool can't do this either on the L405
i understand after 2015 you need to buy the keys with the internal receiver/transponder
but before 2015 it seems the keys can be programmed
a few questions
1- how many keys can be programmed 2 or 3
2- does anyone has the address of a workshop that would do the work not at the outrageous price of official RR who would sell you the key and the programming for 1000 GBP
3- does anyone know a reasonably priced tool or software that would allow me to do it myself
thks Smile

I have had a new key programmed to my 2015 L405 as it only came with one and the place of purchase never came up with the spare as promised. The Locksmith come at the agreed time and advised me he would have to remove the KVM to programme the new key, on pre 2015 models that have not had JLR call back this can be done through the OBD PORT. On removal of the N/S/R pannel in the boot he was unhappy at finding a complete heater assembly for the 4 zone climate control, saying he didn't want to disturb it, long story short I took the ducting out for him then he proceeded with the new key installation. Now we had built a bit of a working relationship I asked him why thieves could take a car so quick if we had to go to al this trouble to program a new key, his response was.
As long as you keep you keys in a faraday bag, or a tin, nobody can take your car without a key. on post 2015, or any 405 that has had the upgrade to the latest KVM, it is impossible to take them without the key, or a signal from within your house. He also advised you cannot clone a key for the latest RR. Charged me £200 which I thought was really good value. I watched him do the job and he also deleted the previous key I was promised would be mailed to me by the seller. Hope this helps.
