HDC SUSPESION AND ABS LIGHTS AGAIN

I am the end of the road with this one, and just about out of cash.

Front near side height sensor changed because showing a 44v so was informed by indi that was my problem £75 latter still shows 44v and warning lights still on then several hours later tells me he carnt do anything !!

Battery is ok
Alternator is good

Tryed wheel side to side

What now, unable to sell because of faults, local steelers want 4 hours to put on diagnostic £95 per hour and no fix!!

I love the car
Thanks in advance (I hope)

A few things to check (for free Smile )

* Has the suspension been calibrated away from standard?
* Check for water in the spare wheel well
* Check the connectors to the EAS ECU in the spare wheel well (and the compressor connector as well while you're there)
* Check the ride height sensor isn't reversed (pics in this thread https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/her...27/page-2)
* If you clear the codes, do the warning messages come on straight away, or only above a certain speed? Do all the messages come at once, or just some at startup and some at speed?
* Do you have Xenon headlamps? If so, do they level correctly? They take a signal straight from the ride height sensor...

For now, I'm going with corrosion on the connector to the EAS CPU.

Sounds eerily similar to me old td6 which like you , I eventually got hacked off with the never ending spending . The abs sensors take their readings from what is called a reluctor ring, which is like a thin ring with Windows cut into it , which is attached to a driveshaft. Sadly, they corrode, eventually causing no signal to be read by the sensors as they basically disintegrate. Not too difficult a job but that can be replaced WITHOUT buying a complete driveshaft. It is driveshaft off though. Best of luck!

Thanks for the replys

All faults come on together

Boot dry

Suspention standard

Sensor correct

Head lights work ( self levelling )

All faults cleared and come back as soon as car is started ( ABS temparaley disabled, Suspention can bus error, HDC inop)

Looked in boot well but can only see the compressor no ECU?

Diagnostics tell us the abs sensors are working

HELP NEEDED

Try the connector on the ABS module itself. They are known for giving errors due to water ingress, if not in the connector then sometimes within the ECU itself. The ABS and Suspension are interconnected via CANBUS (needs to know the suspension height for braking) plus the HDC is driven by the ABS module (individual wheel braking) hence the errors you are getting.
It could be elsewhere but with those faults that's where I would start looking.

Ok. That eliminates some stuff I think:

If the Xenons self-level, the height sensor is OK. It's correctly installed, so that's good. Faults come up straight away so it's not related to height changes - I assume that pressing the suspension height lock, or starting the car with a door open makes no difference? Try that...

Next to check:

See if they installed a non-Xenon height sensor. RAVE sayeth:

Quote:
NOTE: RH front and RH rear height sensors fitted to vehicles with Xenon headlamps have a white stripe across the
back face of the sensor housing for identification.

You could also disconnect the sensor and see how many pins are wired:

Quote:
Standard height sensors use three of the six pins and height sensors for vehicles fitted with xenon headlamps use all six.

While you're doing that, check that you're getting the correct 5V reference (check each pin to an earth).

Then Air suspension relay, EAS ECU connector or the EAS ECU. The EAS ECU is behind the glove box I think.

Ok
I have checked the multi plug on the abs and all looks clean and dry

With the car off the ground , front only, all abs sensors at zero, I spin the wheels and the sensors react got to 7 mph

We noticed that when the engine is turned off after a short run the suspention pumps up and the resets a normal height???

Big Cry rang another STEELER today, they want six hours at £100/ hr + vat for full diagnostic test with no comment to finding the fault!

What a joke must be a good job if you can get it

Still trying

Have you ever had a leak from the windscreen? Pop off the left hand end cover from the dash (the triangular part you see with the door open) and look for any surface rust or signs of water ingress. I'm still betting your ECU connector is corroded or the ECU is damaged. Maybe as it cools down it works for a little while? Suggests a bad connector or dry joint in the ECU.

What diagnostic tool are you using...??

And FYI the latest height sensors only have three pins connected, the headlight leveling apparently doesn't need an input from the sensor... (Don't ask me how, I haven't a clue, that came from JLR when I bought one that had three pins to replace one with 6 pins... my headlights still level perfectly... go figure....!!!!) Pete

The sensor is on the front left so only 3 wires anyway

Diagnostic tool is a Icarsoft

Just looked at the side and no rust to be found

I appreciate you say your battery and alternator are go but the fact the faults appear when you start the car suggests to me you have a low voltage problem at start up. These cars seem to regularly throw up your faults when started, usually they go away when the voltage rises again due to the alternator.
I'd be inclined to look at the wiring connections on the charge / starting circuits.
You could try connecting a jump lead between the battery -ve terminal and a bolt head or similar on the engine block and try starting the car and see what happens. This would at least eliminate the engine earth strap connections.
