Breakdown, with happy ending.

I was driving the RR today at about 30mph when a multitude of warning lights came on and different failure messages such as suspension lowering and no HDC. It then immediately stalled and wouldn't start.
The IID tool gave the error code as P2290 (unknown) but a google search threw up injector control pressure too low.
Anyway, the car was going nowhere so I phoned the RAC and after only waiting about 15 mins the patrolman turned up.
He said he had seen a few of these recently where the sender unit is recording more fuel that it actually has, the gauge showed just under a quarter of a tank but there was no fuel at the rail. I had ran out of fuel.
He chucked some fuel in and after some cranking and battery back up from his van, the car started and was fine.
His advice was to not let the fuel go below a quarter as the sender is obviously being a bit naughty until I can get it changed.
I have since read on here that the sender can be easily accessed under the rear seat and it may well be corroded connections.
Thinking back, I did think that the gauge was reading a bit erratically this last week.
One to watch out for if your gauge plays up.
Pleasantly surprised at the RAC. Excellent service and the patrolman was great too. I know they get a bit of stick these days but I couldn't fault them.

It's always nice to read about the good service received as, generally, most comment on their bad experiences.

Thumbs Up

Loved the title of your Post... Properly sniggered to myself.
I had a similar incident when fuel went below an 1/8th full with 60 miles of range left. Topped up and perfect again. Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

I broke down on the M4, after a good cry I was able to set off again. Old ones are the best ones!

A real breakdown when I was running a Toyota Diesel on veg oil. I'm with National Breakdown, rang from the motorway phone told them I was Diabetic and needed something to eat, got to me in 15 minutes. They don't fix at the roadside but he had a look and could not start it, took me to the next services and arranged for another transporter to collect us. I popped in to get a bite to eat when I came back he said it started no problem, only it is on E on the gauge, Yep run out of fuel, loading and unloading must have sloshed enough about once re-primed it ran ok. OK red faced but I had 120 litres of veg oil in the back, even more red faced I did not let on though!

Yes when you are stranded they are the best guys on the road.
