REAR WHEEL ARCHES - Look After

.

Summers here and a job I have been meaning to do for a couple of months

Hammerite Black the inside & outside of the rear wheel arches.

Easy to do - I had very small rust dots appearing - now sorted

Very easy to do - just allow 5 very thin coats allow to dry ( 45 mins in warm weather ) - build up the coats - spray inside as well as out side
Masking tape makes a clear line and the finished job is 100% mint

Should last a few winter years more

Hope this gives you ideas.

Once you've done this, I added a rubber u section trim to the welded arch joint ( I coated in petroleum jelly first). Available from Dan LR001623 GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Hey boatsandy1966

Ours are 12 MY - we do live in the countryside having said that this one is only used on the Motorways back and forth - so shes had a life of 70 MPH ( and some ) - Wheel arches are washed every day during winter months - so there's no problem with salt - The ARCHES are usually cleaner then the windscreen

Thanks for posting reply

Hi paulmoran2

I was letting these dry for 24 hrs - then I was going to seek out some Dum Dum - Black rubber to paste coat the inner's

https://sugru.com/great-for/cars-and-motorbikes

Its now called SUGRU

Hope this helps with ideas

Dum Dum and Sugru are not the same. Dum Dum (no longer made) is a soft sealant that stays soft forever. Sugru is a moldable semi-flexible plastic that is very soft when applied but cures in air to go fairly hard.

An observation. Some people say the original LR rubber strips have metal inside that can contribute to corrosion. On forum member ndf recommendation, I've used this method on 2 L322 now and it works very well.

Thumbs Up
