Why is the FF making a noise?

Needed to move the FF yesterday. From cold the engine was running for less than a minute as I moved it 10 feet then turned the engine off. I didnt lock it as I was going to clean the rear luggage compartment (calling it a boot seems a bit common for an FF). The car had been stood for about three minuets when I heard a noise (I was outside near the front off side wheel) that seemed to be a 'fan' type noise coming from the area of the scuttle and lasting about 15 seconds. I wouldn't have thought anything would have been on long enough to need cooling, but what else could the noise be? QUID FACIUM TIBI

ECU box under the bonnet has a fan to cool it, it will come on pretty often in this weather even without the engine on for long, it vents to the inside just above the brake pedal.... Thumbs Up Pete

My FBH will occasionally do this, sometimes without even starting the engine, just opening the bonnet seems to be enough encouragement!

(Note FBH been broken for years, either pump (what a stupid place to put it) or glowplug (too lazy to drain down / remove inner mudguard)) Embarassed .

This issue is caused by FBH circuit board having blown it's caps. Any action that will wake up the car CAN bus will also wake the FBH which, due to the fault will start it's fan. The circuit board can be, and should be fixed. It can eat the battery and it will also disable the FBH.

Fuse 59, according to others on here and my handbook ('02), to disable.

Removal is battery out, wheel off, inner wheel arch liner out, drain or clamp coolant pipes, remove FBH. Fix FBH Shocked , then refit in reverse order. There is a Rover 75 chap, French Mike, who repairs the circuit boards...

Thanks doclees for the info about the circuit board. Not been causing any battery problems here though... .
