Hi Guys,

It's rare that I'm stumped, but my 05 RRSC has a drone/reverberation noise around 1200-2000RPM. I've spent a couple of grand now following recommendations from various "experts" to get absolutely nowhere. Obviously Land Rover don't want to know, they had it booked in for an hour and said they wouldn't know where to start. LR specialists here have very little experience with the Petrol variants let alone the SC.

Can anyone recommend a garage that has decent experience with the Supercharged AJV8 engine please?

Have you tried James Tennant just your side of okehampton ? Just off the A30 .

Does it happen at a standstill and the engine revving up to 1200 - 2000rpm or are you moving?

I ask because I had something similar with my P38a, I know well different animals but it sounds like the symptoms are the same if they happen when you're moving. Mine believe it or not was a balancing weight on the rear prop had fallen off, causing what they euphemistically call an harmonic imbalance and it would cause a drone / reverberation.

I'd heard of it before and it was so noticeable that I went looking underneath and lo and behold a clean patch where the "welded" on weight used to be. I couldn't get hold of the information regarding the weight as it was obviously balanced at manufacture so I bought a used rear prop and fitted it, problem gone.

I hope your problem is as simple as mine was.

Only does it while moving and while the engine is under load - it sounds exactly like the sort of noise the harmonic damper was introduced to remove. Same as the harmonic chambers on the intake.

Personally I think it sounds like an intake noise, like the sort of thing you get with a induction kit almost. Bit I've checked the intake multiple times and the noise doesn't increase with the acoustic engine cover off and cabin filter & housing removed.
