Low range loss troubleshooting | |
I guess this goes for L322's, LR3's/4's and sports. I had no low range for a while, one garage says its switch, other says its motor. I went through the trouble to take apart the switch assembly (2007 L322) the assembly circuit board is black with everything gold plated so very well built. Looking at schematics the range selection is enabled simply via momentary voltage. On picture below there is a red wire with black stripe, this is 12v from module to switch(this was my first problem, no 12volts, fiddled with connections and tadah I had low range for a month) also pictured there is a orange wire(low range) and orange wire with red stripe (high range) I used ohm meter between red w black to orange w red and could hear meter beep when button pushed, the red with black to orange, press low range and nothing.
Unfortunately I went through wiring harness all the way to centre council testing along the way and wire was good, I then saw the wires go under to drivers seat, that's where I found this wire goes through s large plug, this was the fault, I jiggled it and had low range.
Hoping to save someone else trouble, you can do ohm tests on these switches from under hood, if you find open circuit when switch pressed check under drivers seat next.
In a jamb you can use a jumper from the red with black stripe to orange wire needed for your purpose, just momentarily. If your not getting 12v from the red w black stripe you can grab 12v from the fuse box right next to your module and touch it to the required orange wire.
