Hi Chaps, wanting a nice camera for wifey. Will be upgrading from a point and shoot, but not wanting to resemble a Japanese tourist. So, the research so far, Cannon G12, Lumix DMC TZ10, Lumix LX5, Leica D Lux 5, NEX-5 with twin lens pack or Panasonic GF1.

About a week ago, all that lot above may as well have been computer programming code for all I knew, but know a bit more about spec and stuff now. Any keen photographers on here to offer a bit of all important advice through ownership. Or indeed advice in general?????? Any help would be very greatfully received

I like the Leica or the Canon.

I have a compact Panasonic Lumix which is fantastic for carrying about in ones pocket, the quality is fantastic and the controls not difficult. The Lumix is so good that I never seem to use my digital SLR anymore. The TZ10 gets some fantastic reviews and if I was on the lookout for a new compact then it would be my choice.

Sorry to add to your list but I would throw the Canon S95 into that mix, a great little camera with a lot of features if you want to play more but works just fine in auto mode. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Nah, don't need specs

Anyway, went for the NEX-5 with the two lenses. Worked out at £480 with the VAT back deal they're doing. Couldn't justify the cost of a Leica D Lux-5 and couldn't buy the Lumix LX5, it seems that's in high demand and no one had near me.
