Best Tyre / size combination for Winter

So a brief poll of the forum - for a 4.4V8 Vogue that wants some winter boots..... "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

You're right - teach me to try to use a Poll.......if I can work out how I edit a poll I will sort it.

Better Idea

Ignore the poll and type it Very Happy "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I want to vote for the 18" wheels because they are nice and cheap.

I got some brand new 19 inch rims with Pirelli Scorpion zero tyres. There seem to be a few sets going through on ebay, they seem to be on cars delivered to the showroom, where the wheels are taken off and replaced with the customers choice of rims pre delivery. I paid £650 which I thought was fantastic.

The wheels and tyres give a great compromise between looks and all round performance/ comfort. I've been out 'playing' in the snow, and whilst I did find the limits down a steep hill on compacted snow, I was very satisfied with their peformance overall.

I think it depends what you want, is it a tyre for snow only, one for the whole winter, or year round?

Cheers,

I am running Goodyear MTR's on 19" rims. Marvellous on the stuff we have at the moment. I came home via a 10 mile single track road the other night and it was incredible, had to go through a few drifts that actually slid up the bonnet and over the sides! The MTR's are doing okay on black ice too.

Just drove 6 miles of back roads to get to work on my AT2's, no problem at all on loose/compacted snow.

I want a spare set of 19" shod in Nokian WR2's. Total cost should be about £1000 bought seperately. They should last about 10 years if I only use in the depths of Winter so bargain Thumbs Up
