I did this with mine, and got a set of genuine normal mud guards to replace the ones that are moulded for the steps.
the will be two holes in the lower panel which the mud guard fix to, so would be best to replace, as the moulded ones just down look right with the deployable steps.
Try your local MD and see if they are willing to offer a discount on the steps and mud guards, generally you can get 10% without to much hassle which offsets the cost of the mud guards. But you can generally find genuine mud guards on bay of e for around £60. Regards
