hi all, ive seen a few posts about this but mostly it seems to be due to the seat belt being gunked up with rubbish mine seems fine

it has a very strong pull but this part at the top slows it down to a crawl, sometimes not even going back at all
i cant see any way of opening this part up to clean it, has anyone ever had this part replaced and does it fix the problem?

PS im talking about the black plastic part where the belt goes through

I had this on my car plus my X5 and learned a trick on a X5 forum.

Buy a can of silicone spray in clear, pull the seat belt all the way out and spray the belt all the way along both sides. Be careful where overspray goes and it works a treat and lasts for ages. Many thanks

Try cleaning the belt itself, I need to do mine as I get the same and have to feed it in the last bit.

Furniture polish on the belt is another trick I've seen.

coincidentally i just did mine with a wet wipe that i used to clean the leather...seems to retract better now.. ... - .- -.

It'll make a small difference but the trouble seems to be within the seatbelt itself, that bit at the top does stop it somewhat but it is the return spring in the seatbelt itself... you can't change any part of the seatbelt, for one thing they don't sell bit's and you can't get it apart and back together anyway..

I have had mine out, fully cleaned and used a bottle of silicon on them, even bought a second hand one which was just as worn, although retracted with some force when not fitted... took it apart and that was it... it's made and restrained in one hit, no way to tighten it up or fix it at all...

Try the silicon it get's a bit better but ultimately you need a new one, they are about £140 IIRC from Dan..  Pete

Interesting. I had the same on SWMBO's Jag XF. Cream belts which were looking grubby so I cleaned them with a wet vac. I wasn't trying to cure the slow retract but it did fix that too. If you'd seen the colour of the water in the vac after I finished you would have been quite shocked. It was beyond filthy.
