I have now my RR since 20 months. It has been really reliable with no fault since I bought it. I drove 40 000 km with it and it has now 200 000 kilometers on the clock. The gearbox has been serviced the day I bought it by a fantastic guy who only looked after RR. He did a first service then another one 10 000 km later and another one.
It is now 10 days I have problems reversing when the car is warmed up: I select R with the gear stick, I have the Bip from the sensors as usual, when I put my foot down on the pedal, you could hear the engine but the car is not reversing!
The car is running perfectly in the D mode and the gearbox is very smooth. When stopped the gear stick goes well from P to D to R to N. Few days before that happened the first time I had a shock against a curb when I was driving and my front tyre was badly damaged ( a big bump ). I don't know if this could be related to my problem. I have spoken to my guy on the phone ( he is 2 hours from home ), and he said he had not heard before of a faulty gearbox with ONLY reverse issues.
Maybe somebody here had this experience previously or any ideas/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot. Ludo

If you put it into N, rev a little, then let it idle, then put into R, does it work? If not, in R if you rev, does it CLUNK and go into reverse?

Probably The cable from the gear selector to the gearbox needs lubricating.

Search it on here plenty on it. Quick and easy to do with a can of spray grease..

If it's not that then it's going to get complicated. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

What year/engine/gearbox?

In previous post he's talking about buying a TD6, so I'd assume it's the GM5L40E Cheese box until told different  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

To Mr Spock: yes it works but not normally. Reverse mode is very weak and goes in N first does not change anything.
To Northermonkeyjones: fingers crossed it is this. I have tried to find on the forum any instructions to do this but no success.
To Mikey: sorry, it is a td6 from 2005, so GM gearbox. Ludo

Car on trailer sent home and complete gearbox overhaul. Hope your problem is simpler to solve but don't think so....

To Rangie4fun: as you said I/we always hope it would be good news if that simple to fix.... If not I will have to go through a rebuilt gearbox.

yep thats the one

not sure it directly applies to the td6 but there may well be a similar mechanism  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hello all,
So I have put my car on heels today to access the cable from the gear stick to the gearbox. I was in the car and my friend had seen which was the right cable. When I have put the selector on R, my friend who was under the car told me the cable was not going far enough. He has managed to pull it further, so I hope my problem could come from this cable. The problem is the cable is not accessible enough to lubricate it. Maybe it is possible to tight thid cable. I drove it today for approx 100 km and the box is responding very well and it is smooth as usual. I put the sport mode and manual also, all good. Only this bl"'"y reverse.

Hi Ludo, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do understand you still haven't any reverse?
If so, get under the car and disconnect cable from gearbox gearchange axle (fairly easy) and move the gearchange axle in the box in the R-mode. If that goes well, put back in N, have someone in the car and run at idle with handbrake applied and have footbrake firmly pressed. Get back under the car and put gearchange axle back in R (let your partner have handbrake and foorbrake engaged all the time!). Now get away from under the car and see if you have any rearward drive. If so, your problem might be the cable (and I hope for you it is), if not...it might be an expensive gearbox overhaul...
