Replacing shock absorbers on 2011 4.4

Hi, Just looking for a little advice - I am about to replace the rear shocks on my 2011 4.4 V8. They are separate from the air springs, yet the manual I have indicates that the air system should be depressurised before removing the shock. Any ideas why that would be? I wouldn't normally remove or compress a spring to remove a shock, why on the RR?
Hope someone can shed light on this

can't see the point, they bolt on, and are no where near the springs.

Just out of interest why are you changing them? mine have been weeping ever so slightly for a while now and never really been a problem. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It's in case you let the axle drop as you will tear the rubber spring. Just make sure you support it and it should be fine.

Many thanks, it’s a relief to get a second opinion. I’m changing them because they came up as an advisory on the MOT and the car feels ‘bouncy’ at the back - hope this does the trick as they ain’t cheap!
