Gear lever slightly stiff / wooly feeling

The gear lever on my 2005 SC has been getting stiffer/wooly feeling over the last couple of months. It selects ok, and there are no other obvious issues. Is this a common / known fauit, and is there some maintenance I should be doing - thinking a bit of oil / grease somewhere?

pretty sure the panelling comes off around the gear stick..take it of and have a butchers , might be some bits there to oil.. ... - .- -.
