Dan, just found out that the abs module on our 2003 petrol L322 is faulty. Main dealers are quoting 3500 for a new unit then up to £5000 total for labour.
Are they that expensive.? Do you have any prices?

You can have yours repaired / rebuilt for a fraction of that cost. I actually bought a guaranteed used one and have had no problems in the 10 months since fitting it. ______________________________

plenty second hand ones for sale on ebay , quite easy to change out - make sure all the numbers match up before buying one though

My ABS ECU/Module failed, My range rover specialist got replacement part from breakers yard they use and charged me £150 for the part. which was about what they go for on ebay.

Is your abs unit deffo fubarred?

I only ask because My abs lights etc all came up a long time ago and so asked bristol stealer to have a look - came back 40 mins later and said it's f@cked, need a new abs unit at over £1500. I queried it and looked myself. They hadn't even taken the abs plug off to look. A little bit of green corrosion on a few of the pins. Toothbrush and electrical contact spray and all is good 40,000 miles later.

The female Plug in is very badly designed because as it's inserted upside down, it catches and retains water in it. Cr@p design.

As others have said, get another unit from another car. There are plenty 2003/2004 v8 petrols sitting around. 👌

@dolphinboy. The brakes are OK, we were getting warnings for abs, hdc and dsc inactive, dealers told wife thar the abs pump and modulator are at fault but now we don't get any warning lights on. I'm only home at weekends and whatever I suggest to do on the car is always wrong!

my well respected independent in newcastle told me the same , they also told me they had repaired the loom , the problem was a wrong spec abs wheel speed sensor had been used NO abs module was required at all, don't trust your dealer IMO . do as said above check the multiplug for corrosion use some contact cleaner and see if it that sorts your issue first.

Or......if in doubt send the ABS module to one of the repairers and they will check it for faults for a nominal fee.

The faults on mine only showed up after driving for around for about 5 - 10 miles, and from what I understand from reading the BMW forum entries its the heat and vibration that expand the solder joints causing it to fault, and only after cooling down, say overnight, the solder joints would retract and all would be well - ish.

Thanks Dan,

Seems that they have replaced a steering angle sensor on the column and the ABS unit was throwing errors after about 10 minutes of driving, however it doesnt seem to have done it since we got the car back at the weekend. I'm wondering if it could just be dirty connectors as the reply above as during the MOT the battery was disconnected for a while and it went into transport mode!
