How to check potential car purchase status

Can anyone direct me how to check a car's history I.e is car cat d status etc?

I have identified a potential FFRR to buy but apprently the seller once tried to sell another car but didn't mention it was cat d in the ad! This is a good price (£1-2,000 below market) for the year and model..... perhaps too good?

Any advice welcome.

That Cazana one is only free if you just want MOT history and other basic details - or use the DVLA checker for MOT. If you want a full check it's £15, or £20 for five (both with Cazana; HPI is £20 I think).

I recommend HPI it who all car dealer use and they are the source of the data for most other companies.
